This is an especially good time for you vacationers who plan to fly, because
the Reagan administration, as part of the same policy under which it
recently sold Yellowstone National Park to Wayne Newton, has "deregulated"
the airline industry. What this means for you, the consumer, is that the
airlines are no longer required to follow any rules whatsoever. They can
show snuff movies. They can charge for oxygen. They can hire pilots right

ANIMATION INDUSTRY IN DANGER : WORLD UNIONS DECLARE EMERGENCY IN THE FACE OF GENERATIVE Al USE. Graphic with the text Let's Stop AI Generated Art.
ENGLISH VERSION

This statement was composed by a collective of international Animation Unions, federations, and organisations calling for action in regards to the usage of generative Artificial Intelligence and its destructive impact, not only on the global animation industry and the craft itself, but also on everyone who is employed by it, our culture and our planet. This same technology is being used to foster dissent, confusion and distrust among the public. This unchecked growth and unjustified techno-optimism comes with incredible environmental consequences, including expanding demand for computing power, larger carbon footprints, shifts in patterns of electricity and water demands and an accelerated depletion of natural resources. As such, there is a need for protection frameworks around GenAl, centered around transparency, compensation, control on the…
We invite all workers, students and allies to join us in Annecy festival, to discuss concerns and defense against GenAl, and to hear unions representatives read the statement on Thursday, June 12th, at 2 PM, on the Paquier (and then a map graphic)

Last night scrolling my phone I saw an add for a CyberSecurity conference. It was localish, so I clicked. After an entire page about it only being aimed for "professionals" and specifically not "Professors and students, or sales industry professionals" (and others) which seemed unnecessary, I was unable to see the schedule or even the speakers until I registered with personal info. No thank you, I don't need to go. It just felt... icky.

BYTE Magazine had its first issue dedicated to databases in November 1981, and then another one in October 1984. I don't always make a direct contribution to the author/s when I buy them used, or borrow them from the library.
