Nice things about the experience though?
Can confirm the Puck works with macOS.
Once you get past the Privacy setting configuration, Steam on macOS was able to natively update both the firmware of the Puck and the controller (needed to plug into each, one after the other) - which was pleasant to see, as that kind of thing can be overlooked
Also - in Big Picture mode they have a nice indicator for remaining battery life on the #steamcontroller
Overall, I think my primary usage for this will continue to be as a controller for #SteamDeck - but it's feels nice to have as an option for Mac as well

Now my Bugzilla account has been disabled for "Repeated abusive behavior towards project maintainers." Perhaps the time has come to publicise more details of:
― the repeated abusive behaviour from FreeBSD developers towards me.
In any case, it's easy enough for me to continue supporting users of FreeBSD whilst being unfairly obstructed by people within the Project who are either unable, or unwilling, to see the big picture.

The sticker price of the Iran war is around $40 billion -- but the total price is much higher
An objective analysis of what has changed after more than 100 days of the conflict,
in which 13 American service members lost their lives along with more than 7,500 civilians in the region,
suggests a more nuanced story than the one Trump put in all caps.
Here are some of the big numbers and trends that draw a fuller picture of how the war affected the US:

So the Roger Williams Park Zoo (@) is offering free admission today and tomorrow due to the extreme heat
HOWEver, because of the extreme heat, they are noting that many of the animals are likely going to stay inside, so you may not see them 😂
(h/t to my wife)

Picture of a Facebook post:

Due to the extreme heat forecast, Zoo admission is entirely FREE this Thursday and Friday, July 2 and 3.
Some animals may choose to remain indoors or in shaded areas to stay cool, so guests may not see all animals during their visit. Stay cool, stay hydrated (bring your refillable water bottle and use our filling stations), and come enjoy our indoor exhibits, misting stations and water play in the Big Backyard!
And don't foreget, In celebration of the

Happy outcome of the #SolarEclipse 2026 dress rehearsal at the #planetarium in #Bochum, Germany, today: the whole event from beginning 14° high through maximum eclipse in 6° elevation down to 3° can be folllowed without obstruction from a specific - and covenient - zone on the premises. This picture was taken at the very 'moment' of maximum eclipse with the Sun in my back: whereever it's shining here, it could be seen. Not ideal for telescopes or big tripods, but many people with eclipse glasses and handheld cameras could be served. Only the weather on 12 August has to be as gorgeous as today ...

Gradually making my way through Dwarkesh Patel's oral history of Generative AI.
Big picture: Many AI designers seem to believe that because their software is smarter than they expected, it will inevitably become smarter than them.

The whole DIY Steam Machine was kinda an itch to see if I could build one with the parts I already had and to see if there were going to be any issues with the OS, software, things like that. However, after playing some games on it and just enjoying it: I think I'm gonna keep this build around for awhile.
There are a few issues that need to be addressed: the components are friggin' hot. The 5950X 7900XT combo in that small case is not helping out at all. The NCASE M1 is be…

Do not only look at benchmarks of AI models. Costs are also very important and the differences are big. In the end that is very important for businesses using AI at scale. Picture is from this excellent blog/post from @…

#FLOSS ecosystem.
I don't think we have a clear idea yet of what's to come, but a recurring image in our conversations is that of feudal age alchemists: closed, hermetic, underground groups, sharing knowledge in tight secret circles, never with the wide public... it's certainly not a pretty picture, but it might be the "rational" conclusion for many.
When we see the threat of big corporations (or just petty unimaginative people) stealing our work, what can we do, when collective action has been labelled as criminal activity, other than hide or risk the severe consequences of being combative?
