And from the [not] #freemarket annals:
"And of course, patients don't get to merge to monopoly (that's what governments are for, and we know how Blue Cross feels about single payer care). Workers don't get to merge to monopoly either (that's what unions are for, and no one hates a union more than a health care monopolist)."

I know it is well-meaning, but extrapolating the total size of 2000 events from 320 reports is bogus unless one models the size distribution and how that influences whether an event has a report. I.e. big events get reported, smaller ones not so much.
Even with that, it would be very much open to debate.

As you ford life's rivers, keep your knees bent and face upstream so you can better see what's coming at you. But as you crawl life's ductworks, face downwind and keep your mouth shut lest you suck in dust-bunnies.

I fear that, after the destruction of Iran, Jordan and, in particular, Saudi Arabia will be the next war targets of the #US and# Israel.
However, they have no idea of the potentially dangerous consequences of destabilising such countries, which could be even more dangerous than Iran's possession of nuclear weapons.

Soon, I’ll be throwing away all my desktop computers as well, though I’m keeping my Lenovo Thinkpad around. I hate computers, yet I use them.
To me, computers are just junk nobody asked for. They’re glowing traps that keep us hooked, scrolling and clicking away our time for endless feeds. No matter the OS or hardware, it’s all distraction from reality.
Yes, Linux can free us and all that, and even the hardware can be part of that freedom. But the computers themselves remain a cir…

The image depicts a street scene with a car engulfed in flames, emitting thick black smoke. The car is covered in graffiti, including the words "Fuck Police" and "Anarchist." In the foreground, a person is seen riding a bicycle with a large wheel, wearing a mask. The background shows additional vehicles on fire, with people gathered around, some appearing to be observing the scene. The date "Jun 12" is visible at the topt. In the lower right corner, there is a screenshot of a computer terminal …

I distrust a man who says when. If he's got to be careful not to drink
too much, it's because he's not to be trusted when he does.

Been designing distributed counters for NATS. Pretty happy with this.
50k/second unoptimised and on a single counter - but we will support aggregation of regional to global etc.
Hard dist sys problems made trivial to use and operate 💪💪

#caturday

Single panel cartoon.
A human doctor is wearing a long white lab coat and one of those stereotypical round mirror thingies that doctors don’t wear on their heads anymore but cartoonists draw anyway, with a clipboard in one hand, is reaching out to an anthropomorphic tabby cat sitting on a bench looking worried. The doctor says, “Bad news, it’s curiosity.”

Unprecedented wealth concentration
– and the unbridled power that comes with such wealth
– has distorted our democracy and is driving societal and economic tensions.
Musk, the world’s richest man, wields power no one person should have.
He has used this power to elect candidates that will enact policies to protect his interests and he even bought his way into government.
While at the helm of Doge, Musk dramatically reshaped the government in ways that benefit him…
