need to find a way to put #XFCE Terminal tabs at the bottom. it's a terminal: I spend all my pointer focus at the bottom and the tabs on the ceiling are a long way for a thumb on a touchpad 😅

Is there some setting in #Nextcloud that would cease posting these tagging messages? As evident in the image below, while occasionally useful, most often, by a large margin, the tags are hilariously inaccurate (a tuning note A is 'rap') but as I have thousands of photos and audio files, the constant stream of these renders notifications useless,

so far, so amazingly good. the Dell 5290 has a close keyboard but with a nice haptic response and despite less RAM and similar bogomips to my old ZaReason, everything media has been smooth as glass in #Debian13 - never thought I would say so, but if you are new to pondering Linux for that machine that can't do Win11, for everyday use or science lab stuff unfettered by clouds, I wouldn't go near Ubuntu, you'll be just fine in Debian.

I figure even if it is someday possible for the transhumanists to upload themselves into a machine, it will be a nightmare attempting to later transplant themselves into the new improved updated wow machine that will someday replace it!
Folks who balk about Mastodon not letting you migrate your entire presence elsewhere likely have never tried to extricate their personal workflow from a 15 year old laptop! 😅

you need to catch the 9:44, and if you hurry you can just make it, only, crap, forgot your keys, and to go back will take at least 5 minutes.
so you get the sched and historical records, and you find there is quite a bit of variation so you crunch the numbers and figure the odds are still reasonable it will be at least ten minutes late. You weigh your probabilities and decide to go.
Meanwhile I call a friend who is on that train and ask their estimate. I now have a better estimate? After my call, they ask a porter and get another even better estimate?
Meanwhile, 12km down the rails a protest has blocked a crossing, determined to hold that train at least until the police arrive.

and it was going so well too: spent yesterday enjoying a not-gmail #Evolution access to my workspace, but now, as of this morning, with no changes other than sleep, Evolution is locked out:
“Failed to authenticate: Cannot create an item in a locked collection”.
ok #Debian13 #gnome wtf is a "locked collection" and by who's authority was it created with a lock on my own machine?
More to the point: will my Evolution email always be this fragile? ie is it pointless to even try?
More to the gripe: do software developers EVER post messages using terms that are actually DEFINED somewhere?

Friday was an adventure in tech futility. Started with a gifted laptop, Dell Latitude, and the simple task of wiping its poor excuse for an OS and installing something sensible.
#Ubuntu wasn't it. OMG Ubuntu, what HAVE you done?! Tried first #UbuntuStudio then stock Ubuntu, 24.04, 25.04, 25.11, all the installers simply hung, no log, no journalctl, CPU chugging but nada detectable action, even hours later, just "Preparing…"
Net advice is old, of course, but points to the snap bootstrap service, fix has no effect but Kee-riced look at the mount table?! Snaps crackle and pop all over! Wtf, why? 🤯
And it is tedious. These 'DVD' iso files are 7GB, so, after 6 hours frustration, I thought, let's try something smaller to cut the turnaround time. #Debian13 simple bare-bones net-install seemed a good candidate …
And it was. Seemless install. 😊
