タイムライン上の表示量は、設計上、ある程度抑制をかけた方が良いと考えています。
500文字程度はよいとして、3000文字だったりそれ以上になると、流すにしても長いし、その時に読みたいかどうか選びたい。帯域食いますし、少し減らしたい。
画像も、とりあえず4枚ぐらいまでで、続きは何らかの方法で辿れるぐらいがよいのではないかと思います。あえて5枚以上載せるかどうかは、投稿者の判断。
このへんは、機能として受取側が設定できてもいいかなと思います。
Mastodonはデフォ抑制、Misskeyはプレビューカードが全リンク展開されるなど盛々です。
Fedibirdの引用と参照もそうですが、引用は対象の投稿を強制して見せますが、参照はリンクにして伏せます（代わりにプレビューカードがでますが、これにより省略されたものになります）
