On Sunday, group chats around the capital lit up with a 31-tweet-long thread by a crypto investor named Adam Cochran alleging that Trump was in ill health.
This morning, the press corps was kept about 100 yards from the president.
The speculation wasn’t helped by a series of strange answers J.D. Vance gave in a USA Today interview last week,
where he said he was ready to be president if needed:
“I've gotten a lot of good on-the-job training over the last 200 day…

AURA: Agent for Understanding, Reasoning, and Automated Tool Use in Voice-Driven Tasks
Despite advances in language and speech technologies, no open-source system enables full speech-to-speech, multi-turn dialogue with integrated tool use and agentic reasoning. We introduce AURA (Agent for Understanding, Reasoning, and Automated Tool Use), the first open-source, speech-native assistant capable of completing complex, goal-driven tasks through dynamic tool invocation and multi-turn conversation. AURA combines open-weight ASR, TTS, and LLMs in a cascaded pipeline and supports tools …

It sounds like that Tea app vulnerability (not the one where they had data just open to the world on Firebase, but a second problem) is what I describe in the first paragraph of this post.
You *can’t* rely on user-controlled devices to safely hold credentials that work for more than that one user—especially if the credentials live outside of something like a hardware security module, which they almost certainly do if your app is storing them.

Twitter: you're yelled at for being woke and on the payroll of Big Weather because you say the sky is blue today.
Bluesky: you tell the void the sky is blue today, and the void just stares back.
Fediverse: you tell the big messy mess of disparate services that somehow make the whole messy thing work that the sky is blue and you get 10 replies, half of them asking if you're here just to promote bluesky. You proceed to engage in a rich conversation with the other half.

I think this is a really good post on the cost of AI from my friend.
I'm anti-AI but I do think I need to better understand how it works and how others use it or I can't really contribute to the conversation.
AI might be able to make you more "efficient" but if you don't care about the content you make no one else will either.
"Why the Left lost on Trans Rights" - a conversation between Sarah McBride and Ezra Klein. Below the link to YouTube, but you can also find it as a podcast. It's not about Trans rights, really. It's about the culture war; grace; demanding perfection in action and flawlessness in language instead of accepting allyship in substance and grace when someone is trying; about not having space to think differently.

"I share your enthusiasm for conversation over food. I ran a fishing lodge for 8 years, people from all over the world came. I would eat dinner with a different group each night. I am unable to count the times that the sun set and midnight arrived with the food gone and only wine and conversation left. Conversation seems to be leaving society now in many circles."
conversation and dining has been superseded bu uber eats and social media,.
UGH!
Qualifications for holding a conversation:
* A genuine interest in what your conversation partner has to say (Otherwise it’s a monologue).
There is no #2. Not even sharing a common language, believe it or not.
In a saner environment, we’d be having a reasonable conversation about that: in what ways, if any, can a machine that repeats contextual patterns with no sense of meaning augment humans thinking through tricky things? In ways can it mislead? When, if ever, is it worth the tradeoffs? the resource costs? etc etc.
Right now, the off-the-charts money and hype make that reasonable conversation impossible except perhaps in hushed corners. (Please do not have that argument in my replies. I am tired.)

I posted something less than sufficiently anti-AI for the audience and got some thoughtful argument and some "AI is terrible and stupid and doesn't work" replies. I understand the anti-AI sentiment but I regret the shallowness of so many replies. To claim that LLMs are completely useless is deliberately ignorant. There are lots of interesting critiques of LLMs: copyright, human agency, effectiveness, privacy, even existential threats. "I hate this new thing I don't understand" is a bad start to a conversation.
More or less true. Though I'd argue that even the height and chin requirement is an overstatement..
It really is mostly about personality, friendliness and manners, not appearance.

@lolxd292@mastodon.social Yes, because the UI expects that if you reply to a conversation, you intend to converse with the whole conversation. Usually that's correct, but if your intention differs from the defaults, you'll need to adjust that action.
