The multiple file GUI for ubuntu is not great. On windows you can incriment file numbers starting from any number... ubuntu lets you pick number format but it always starts from 1.
This is only a pain because of me ripping DVDs and trying to number episodes.

Troubleshooting the GPU implementation of the CDR PLL in ngscopeclient.
They're supposed to be basically the same just parallelized.
But instead we can see that the GPU version seems to have narrower bandwidth (the p-p of the frequency is significantly smaller) plus a large spike in the jitter histogram at time zero.
The complex dynamics of this make it *very* challenging to troubleshoot. I found and fixed a few unrelated bugs in other blocks and the GUI along the way b…

This was put together in 3 hours and I am very proud of this janky code.

I switched up to RAR 7.20b3. Not a lot of change for Linux users as most of the improvements are for the in the GUI (so Windows only a.k.a. WinRAR).
However you can now use $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/rar (which normally expands to $HOME/.config/rar) to store your .rarrc configuration file, which, you know… just keeps everything neater. 🤷 I'll take it. 😉

Gnucash is a nice simple Gtk/GUI accountancy program; I've used it to keep track of my spending, income, credit cards etc for well over a decade; it does simple double-entry stuff and also has some more advanced stuff for generating reports and small businesses.

In the event you have to use a Mac for work reasons, or you still have one you're planning to use up before you get rid of it, or you have an untreated condition which causes you to believe you prefer Macs, there is a tool available to make it act a little more like a normal UNIX system GUI environment by enabling Focus Follows Mouse. It's called AutoRaise, and it's open source!

Looking for something that's easy to use but still allows making good-looking interactive UIs, preferably without excessive boilerplate code.

Something that just drives me up the wall about this particular area of Git (merge conflicts) is that, beyond the all-too-typical Git problem of sloppy terminology, this is bad feature design. In most situations, “use ours” and “user theirs” are •both• the wrong answer! There are two doors, and they’re •both• trapdoors.
If you have a merge conflict, that means that you changed something •and• somebody else changed something, and your job is to •synthesize• both changes. To use one is to discard the other, which is usually not what you want!
The thing Git (and every Git GUI) ought to surface is a three-way merge: show me what I changed and what they changed ••relative to the nearest common ancestor••. Yes yes yes, I know it’s possible to finagle that into view with Git. It should be the danged default. It is what I should see first. It is what I should see if I have no idea what I’m doing.

@… Great. But why? There enough Linux installation tutorials out there. And anyone starting with the mainstream distros like Fedora/Ubuntu should have no problems using the GUI installers. I suspect the tutorial that is needed is not how to install Linux, but rather how to install anything that wasn’t already there when you bought your computer.

Auch in Deutschland dürften einige Gogs-Instanzen betroffen sein. Angreifer können über eine bisher ungepatchte Lücke Schadcode einschleusen.«

'gitk' is a simple GUI git repo viewer; I mostly use it when trying to keep a view of the order of my commits as I'm trying to reorder or break them up, or trying to follow a change back to the commit which had the original version of the line I changed.
I find that on huge old repos adding --max-count=20000 keeps the RAM usage down.

The joys of working on an open source project that interfaces to obscure, sometimes obsolete hardware: regression testing is almost impossible.
Sure, we can catch regressions in the GUI easily. But if a big fix to a driver breaks things for a different scope supported by that driver, there's no way to test without having one of those scopes around to validate things against.
And there's way too many models of instrument out there for building any kind of CI cluster to be …

Many months ago, I was trying to mod Borderlands 2 on Linux.
It has been made easier with Steam Deck as most mod mangers offer Linux builds.
I wish there was an all-in-one GUI software which handled mods for games. It would assist in installing mods for all kinds of games like how Minecraft’s third party launchers do.
