Somebody at Apple had a meeting and came out of it saying, “Yes. Put Freeform in the dock by default. On every Mac.” #imaginethemeeting

The icon for Apple’s Freeform app, which no one has ever discovered the purpose of. It was a fever dream conceived early in the COVID-19 pandemic by an eager product manager, who thought Apple might have a wonderful complement to Zoom for collaboration or creation. By the time it shipped years later, no one could remember why it was even created. To this day, it has never been opened by a single user except by accident.

Good article summarizing a lot of things relevant to continued COVID'19 caution:
cbc.ca/radio/quirks/beyond-lon
Key points:
COVID'19 weakens the immune system:
"""
So it's not just about infecting you and causing respiratory illness and fever and all of the things that we usually get with the viral infection. This virus also specifically causes your immune system to become weaker.
"""
It damages blood vessels:
"""
In addition to SARS-CoV-2's ability to dysregulate the immune system and suppress the immune system, the spike protein itself is very damaging to blood vessel structures as well as red blood cells and platelets themselves.
"""
The folk idea that infections make our immune system stronger and stronger like a muscle just isn't true (or at least, doesn't apply to COVID'19 because of how, unlike most other viruses, it damages the immune system):
"""
For the longest time in the field of immunology, there was the sort of adage that your immune system needs to be tested every now and again to stay strong. That's an old-fashioned idea.
The more new-fashioned and evidence-based idea is that, although your immune system can take on [a COVID] infection, you want to avoid testing it as much as possible because your body is sustaining damage with each infection that it survives.
"""

And of course the much-sensationalized open-air drug use at 16th & Mission is partly a result of taking tents away. This is a sign of degradation and further cruelty, not success.

masks at protests / demographics
Interestingly, at the May Day gathering I was the only one in a mask.
Thinking about the contrast with the trans protest the other week, where "good" (fitted not floppy) masks were dotted about throughout the crowd, and felt normalised.
Today's march was a less crowded event than the trans protest, so pretty low-risk for covid transmission anyway. But then when we got to the mini-fair after the march, indoors at the Friends' Meeting House, I didn't see anyone masking indoors either.
I wonder about the demographics of that difference. Seems like there's a traditional union/Labour left who share the mainstream denial of present-day covid, and a statistically more disabled & marginalised cohort where trans awareness and disability/illness awareness overlap.

Bit of an exaggeration in that part of the article. The 2m distance does put you outside the densest clouds of exhaled breath, and sanitising countertops helps against other diseases. But yeah. A lot of effort wrongly expended due to the prevailing myth.
