🐝 Voracious honey bees threaten the food supply of native pollinators
#bees
For the first time we got fruit (2!) on the Akebia quinata ('chocolate vine"). We planted a different clone last year for pollination and although the flowering time overlap is small, at least we got these.
Pleasant vanilla pulp (bitter seeds) a bit like cherimoya and relatives. Worth growing? A nice plant but hardly a viable fruit crop in Manchester.
"While crop seed vaults are common around the world, nurseries for wild and native plants are rare, and many plant species quietly become extinct. This marks #Gurukula out as a Noah’s ark for endangered plant species."
Does a good farmer neglect a crop he has planted?
Does a good teacher overlook even the most humble student?
Does a good father allow a single child to starve?
Does a good programmer refuse to maintain his code?

In 2023, I wrote an article about two Bioenergy-with-CCS 🌲🔥🍃 (BECCS) projects in Denmark🇩🇰, which is somewhat timely given recent news.
It was published on the shipping news page Fathom World, which is no longer online, so I have republished it.
Back then, Ørsted announced plans for carbon capture and storage at two of its bioenergy power plants (Asnæsværket and AvedŸreværket). 🧵
I actually think it would be wise for high-profile right-wing figures to forgo any device capable of storing digital files.

I have to keep remembering that carrots are really not a sub-tropical crop. I plant them all year but the winter ones are so much better. Right plant for the climate and the season. You'd think I'd know that by now.
