(Was UHF always this bad but our TVs were small enough not to notice?)
(My Beeb only started some stuff after I took it's lid off - is it's got some heat problems!)

A computer genrated simple snooker table, side on, with all the balls; photo off a TV
Acornsoft Monsters - a simple platform game with red monsters running around various levels with vertical purple ladders. Our player is standing at the bottom of the middle level in the starting position. There's a score/lives etc
Acornsoft snapper - a Pacman clone, but for legal reasons there's a more-person shaped runner than a normal Pacman; the ghosts are still running around a maze with pills.

Every fucking bit of solar generation we have presently ends up in the car, and this is peak season, so we're just paying the electric company for all the house load rather than being practically off grid. House battery (22kWh) now at 5% SoC after a day of bright sunshine, even throttling the van to a 6A230V charge.
Better get those extra 10 panels installed.

My second day off. Back to the salt mine tomorrow. Indoors today, as I’m waiting for a DPD delivery - a new Apple Watch - and I have a telephone appointment with my IBD team this afternoon. At least I don’t need to trek to the hospital.

It would be cool if the Coast Starlight's running time were half as long and if there were 6 departures per day and you could, on one ticket, freely get off at stops along the way and visit for a bit before getting back on the next train toward your destination.

So yesterday was a weird day; had an onsite and while wrangling my access to the building, realized one of my boot heels had come off, so I spent like 20m trying to backtrace where it fell off. Never did find it. 😂
Was working in an office space client is moving into, so basically abandoned

I mean the things like "when's my next [event] again?" [Response] "oh, please set up a reminder for two days before that telling me to buy [stuff]"
I use ("dumb") Siri on Home Pod (and on my iPhone before I migrated away from iOS, like to set reminders for the next day without getting distracted or getting light im my face while on bed trying to sleep) to set timers and stuff when I don't have a device at hand, as well as for turning off my living room lights via the Home Assistant integration when going to bed (since the switch is far from the hallway), so these extra features would be really cool specially if it was something local, open source and with integration with stuff in my NAS.

4/4 Spent the day today with @… turning the water on and off, and the pump on and off.. watching how the water comes out of the bog filter and down into the poolpond. Pump is only at 25%, which is more like 15% as there will be a second pump as well in time.
Shifted some of the flat stones around and got them in a nice place. I had to do some hand digging under the lining near the tree. I am pretty sure the berm is too low there for when the pumps are at full force, but I am ok with where things are now. There is lots of opportunity to build the edges up if need be.
For now, I am going to work on sealing the rocks along the edge in to help direct the water.
I also need to splice in an extension cord into the pump wiring so that I can run a long enough distance to have the power supply and controller in the small shed and not hiding under the liner at the top of the pond. 🤣

My wife has a day off today. I was working, and up at 4 am. She messaged to say that she had been in the garden and mowed the lawn. I had said I would get her to help me with it when I got home. I usually mow, and she rakes up. I’m not complaining, though!

Health Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr, on Tuesday added to his lengthening catalog of bizarre wild animal encounters by
posting to social media a video of himself in Florida wrestling with two snakes.
Kennedy, who has previously admitted dumping the carcass of a bear cub in New York’s Central Park,
and is also alleged to have cut the penis off a road-kill raccoon,
is seen grabbing the pair of serpents with his bare hands.

Beyond pressures from the Iran war, which stock markets have largely shrugged off, AI is a factor in the divergence.

I've finished reading Simon Winder's "#Germania" a while ago, but I've been slacking with the review. This is a book about the history of #Germany, in the wide meaning of word. However, it's not your boring detailed history book. The author takes us on a deeply personal journey across German landscape, across tiny towns and great forests, Schlosses, churches and monuments, and uses that as a context to bring the country's surprisingly interesting history to light. And honestly, it works — it is deeply enjoyable, to the point of making me wonder if one day I should actually move to Germany, get a Bahncard 100 and start exploring myself.
I didn't quote the book here, but if I were to choose one quote that really resonated with me, it would be:
"""
Solitary tourism is something that everybody should indulge in. Of course it is a fraudulent solitude because its enjoyment comes from its limited duration and having a cheerful, only very temporarily abandoned main base area. […] And then, suddenly, I am in Vienna, standing in the shadow of a monstrous, derelict flak tower, and completely alone. The virtue of solitary tourism is its infinite ability to absorb boredom. I often find myself almost crippled with anxiety that the companion or companions on a journey might be finding everything wholly without interest, would rather be eating somewhere else, are secretly angry that we have wound up walking down this street rather than that, are contemptuous of my own interests. Solitary tourism cauterizes all this: if a museum is boring beyond all measure there is no pressure to feign interest, you just leave. I am perfectly happy, in a zoned-out way, to crisscross a town, walking for hours, just for the off-chance something curious might be round the next corner – indeed in the confidence that there will always be something curious (there always is). But for each street, each bar, each folklore museum to be converted into an inter-human negotiation creates an entirely different dynamic.
[…]
Quite possibly the pleasure of this way of life would be much reduced in some other countries, particularly more insistently gregarious places such as Italy. German culture puts a high value on temporary solitude of a stagey kind. Perhaps this is its great gift. In some moods I think there is no need to do anything other than read German writers from the first half of the nineteenth century – a sort of inexhaustible storehouse of attitudes flattering to those who just like sometimes to be left alone. Everyone must have at least a part of them that wants to live in a stairless, doorless tower as a sort of intellectual Rapunzel, setting aside, at least in part, the complicated sexual frisson laid out by such an idea. Germany really is thick with ivy-covered turrets and the promise of solitude (Kepler staring at the planets above Prague, Faust conjuring demons) – the great majority presumably built in the nineteenth century in response to the whole literature devoted to the subject. There is one turret in Lübeck, built onto a city guard tower of just outrageous fakeness, which would do me for life.
"""
(Simon Winder, Germania)
And if you follow me, you have evidence that the part about crisscrossing towns is so true: the best things I've posted here I found by complete accident, especially the murals.

My wife likes to sleep in on days off. I tend to wake up the same time every day. Earlier sometimes if I’m at work by five, but otherwise, naturally, around 5.30 - 6.00 am. If I sleep later, it’s never beyond 7 am unless I’m unwell. Anyway, I leave her sleeping unless we’re going out somewhere.

Working on deleting Telegram.
Set up new Signal groups for the old Telegram ones. Robots to mirror the ActivityPubs.
Me: dalliance.net/chat
Starhip Project: starshipsd.com/chat
Tarot Project: wordcloudtarot.com/chat
The old Telegram groups will be closed and deleted in due course. Haven't had it installed on my phone since I switched to Graphene and these groups and robots were the last blocker to deleting it off my desktop soon too.
Changed all the website links etc.
Been meaning to do all that for ages. Yes it did take all day. But I do feel like my powers are increased now I have CLI (and so scriptable) access to a Signal account.

finally! the pond is *just* overtop the intake bay inlet and flow has reversed to its proper skimming mode. have pump 1 on low and slow. There is just enough water coming in now for the level ti only drop very slowly.
am I sitting on the edge of the pond at dark at midnight watching the water rise ever so slowly so that I can go ?
yes 😂
edit: it's 1AM. Just turned off the water. Both pumps are at 90% power and the water level appears stable. I'm going to go out on a limb and call it a night and hope there is water in the right places in the morning.
who am I kidding. of course there will be. It's even awesome at night.
This was a good day!! 😁 👍

Day off today. I’ve done some journaling, and now I’m working on post-processing photos from yesterday’s Spring Gathering at Brooklands. The urge to indulge in my mistress keeps interrupting me, though. She’s very demanding. I’m already on my third. I’ve added a photo of her.
