If you're attempting to patch in Game Porting Toolkit 3 beta 1 libraries into CrossOver and following the instructions in the Evaluation environment for Windows games 3.0 beta 1 README - there is a missing step which will likely cause your Steam's steamwebhelper.exe binaries to crash repeatedly.
In addition to ditto'ing over the "external" folder that the instructions mention - you also need to ditto over the "wine" folder as well to the same lib64/apple_gptk destination
Doing both of those things, I was successful in getting it running in CrossOver Preview (20250507 / 26.0.0.39135)

I've been dabbling in the world of Linux on the desktop in the past week or so, mostly from the gaming angle, and I Have Thoughts.
But... aside from criticisms, as someone who used Wine in its infancy, it's amazing to see it just work. Start Steam, click a checkbox, start a game. That's literally it!

Last night 8 of us got together for Call of Cthulhu. First RPG for one of us, and a couple of us with decades of experience gaming together. Went off without a hitch. Other than my reporter getting killed by a swarm of vermin (one of two deaths).

And how am i suppose to tell my wife that yes i will play a game about digging a hole and yes i paid for it real money. I hope this game doesn’t run on Proton

This is great as my laptops are not intended for gaming but this is no longer a problem 😎

I bought Moonlighter for dirt cheap off Steam Sale a few days back and I downloaded it to give it a try. The Linux native version SUCKS! Ah, current plans for today: find some way to get Microsoft Flight Sim 2024 running on my computer. So far I've managed to select my starting airport/airfield and then the game hangs. It's progress, but I have a feeling this fight is going to go on for awhile considering the game hangs immediately afterwards.

Hrmm, seems like my HOTAS setup doesn't work with MSFS 2024 under Linux which is very annoying. Not quite sure _why_ it's not working other than as far as MSFS is concerned it does not exist. `usbreset` shows it and I can see outputs from the device, but for this specific game it's a no-go at the moment. Very annoying.

Swapped the nVidia RTX 4070Ti with a nice, regular-sized AMD Radeon 9070 XT. Everything is running perfectly though I did have to reinstall Linux because I couldn't undo the futzing I did to clear up a few issues with Wayland with the 4070Ti. Not a huge deal, but still annoying. However, everything is fine and now just enjoying some gaming.
