Foodies forgive us, though we know exactly what we do. We had so much garlic from the garden this year that now absolutely has to be late planted, eaten or stored that we have resorted to Jarlic. 🌱 #gardening #oklahoma
End of the harvest season. Pulled the last of the tomatoes and peppers from our victory garden. I'm going to dehydrate about a kilogram of jalapeños and grind them into a powder.

We grew the most gorgeous Brussels sprout plants this year. Of course, we didn't actually get a single Brussels sprout. But since it turns out you can eat the leaves - which we have in profusion - who cares?

What's especially interesting, and dangerous to capitalism, is that there are a lot of opportunities that come out of this.
Corporations are destroying everything. We actually don't need them. We can build mutual aid networks, guerilla gardening, library socialism... When we stop with consumerism, we can find the joy in actually living, creating, being a creative human rather than simply a consumer. With a bit of momentum we can bend the system to our will. With enough momentum we can shatter it completely and free ourselves from this trap.
Things can go a lot of different ways. I'm excited to see how things go.
Edit:
I'm specifically excited about this...

This is cool. This is really fucking cool.

I don't think I have twisted off the cap for the cleanout since I bought the whole assembly... 5months? I only slid the end into the pipe in August so hadn't needed to screw off the cap. It took some leverage/persuasion to turn it.
But I was successful, and now the big filter can be drained. The water was actually higher than the bottom of the cap but no big deal, it's not really under any pressure.

Since it seems frost may finally be on the cards this week, we picked all the tomatoes this afternoon. With a little luck, we'll make and can green tomato jam tomorrow.

emptied the pond overnight. We have had so much rain this past month! All are full. I am going to drain it all and keep it drained until I get the pumps wired and can habe them installed and running. Don't want the water to get stale and unhealthy.
I think I might hire a stone mason to build the wall.
moving the pump into the intake bay now. It should be empty by the time I am back from the day's ceremonies.

It might be about minus eleventy billion degrees out there, but that hasn't stopped next door from deciding that this is the perfect opportunity to get out the gardening tools and go all texas chainsaw massacre on their hedge.
Right below the bedroom I use as an office, of course.

First day post harvest madness underway: taco sauce starting to ferment, bruschetta in a jar ready to can, first batch of salsa verde in the hot water bath. So much left to do. 🌱 #gardening #preserving #peppers
A decent haul from our cramped city garden as we close up for the winter.

The fruits of tonight’s mad dash harvest of the feral garden to get as much picked before the cold snap starts signaling to the plants to slow down. I think we have some work to do. 🌱#gardening #oklahoma #okwx

In positive news, after the cold snap we've had since November, the last couple of days' warmer weather coupled with the heavy rain we had over night thawed the ground enough for us to plant the garlic. We also discovered a few forgotten radishes in the process.
