I've spent some of today finding bottlenecks in my world-simulating cellular automaton, and I can now simulate 10,000 years of history from the middle of the Ice Age to the middle of the Iron Age over 40,000 square kilometres (at kilometre scale) in slightly under two minutes of wall-clock time. It's utterly caning my poor computer, but it doesn't crash.
#Clojure

Part of a map of the Stewartry, two hundred simulated generations from the start of human settlement. High hills are still heavily forested, but there's masses of human settlement around Beeswing, Corsock, New Galloway and Creetown.
The state of my poor computer in the middle of a simulation run. Memory is maxed out (garbage collection is clearly the major bottleneck) and eight of my twelve processor cores are also maxed out.

I decided long ago that generational classifications do not make any sense.
As an example:
How can I possibly be in the same generation as my parents?
Meanwhile, my 2 children are considered to have been born into different generations.
The whole premise is absolute codswallop.

Groceries are shaping up to be a top spending priority for younger generations,
a February report from McKinsey & Company found.
The firm asked over 4,000 people, from baby boomers to Gen Zers, about the categories they intend to splurge on this year.
Groceries ranked highest for millennials and Gen Zers,
outpacing restaurants, bars, travel, beauty and personal care, apparel, and fitness.
Guess what that led them to conclude:

She found this upsetting and just wants to call. So hey, maybe that'll make a comeback after Gen Z?

Capitalism as a natural followup to religion
Religion teaches you that you need to toil all your life for the elites, and you're going to reap the reward in the afterlife. That is, if such a thing exists. If it doesn't, it's not like you're going to be around to complain.
Capitalism teaches you that you need to toil most of your life for the elites, and you're going to reap the reward of a nice, cozy retirement. That is, if you live long enough to enjoy it. If you don't, it's not like you're going to be around to complain.
Well, technically you may not be healthy enough, or have a pension high enough, to actually enjoy the retirement. But it's not their fault — you haven't been taking good care of yourself, you haven't been working hard enough, or perhaps it's the fault of these lazy youngsters, or immigrants, or… In either case, if you were a good, god-fearing person, you're still up for the other reward, right?
Oh, and in both cases, it's important to reproduce. We must breed, so that future generations can continue toiling for the elites.

Right, so, visualisations of Galloway
1. About 5,000 years after the ice has melted, with widespread forest;
2. About 5,000 years after that, after 200 generations of human settlement.
This is pure simulation, not actual data; but the land it shows as flooded is either still lochs and wetlands, or land we know has historically been drained. The areas of settlement are plausible, and map onto historical settlements.

Visualisation of Galloway just before the start of human settlement. Valleys largely climax forest, hills largely boreal forest. Only the highest hilltops are moorland.

A great deal of flooded land, but it's in the right places.
Visualisation of Galloway at the height of the iron age. Substantial areas of settlement, but not on the lowest land. Still substantial wetlands. Lowland forests largely gone, upland forests remain.

Hey CBC - it’s called “The Fade” and has been around since the 1930s. I had one when I was *12 years old*!
Stop taking Black Culture and making it about white people!!

Puritan Revival is leading a wave of sexphobia and you can hear it in the way younger generations comment on 30 year old TV shows.
