One of the nice things about Shortwave's Gmail frontend is that it isn't full of consistency bugs. Gmail is forever showing me out of date info. Also sometimes 5 minutes after I do something in Gmail it will complain when I close the window that some info hasn't been saved. WTF? They made some non-transactional architectural decisions in Gmail long ago that are still causing problems.

As I mentioned earlier, I switched to Thunderbird (Mozilla) for all of my email collection. Been using it for over 24 hours and have it set up the way I want it on both pc and phone. Excellent program.
Now here is a stupid security? rule that just doesn't work: ANU emails can't be configured to a 3rd party email client like Thunderbird even through IMAP. However, one can set up, in ANU's web Outlook interface, to forward them automatically to a bloody Gmail account! 🤦♀️<…

Google Workspace bounced an email to my somebits email address. That stuff just forwards to my gmail account. I've learned two things today:
- Google's own forwarding of messages breaks DKIM and can cause email to be marked as spam just because of its own forwarding process
- Google leaked my gmail address in the bounce from the message sent to my somebits address. That's a major privacy violation!

Meinen Google Account habe ich am 05.12.2006 erstellt. GMail war noch in der Closed Beta und jemand hat mich dazu eingeladen. Seitdem arbeite ich damit.
Seit einigen Jahren schaue ich immer mal wieder, ob es eine Alternative gibt, die ähnlich gut funktioniert für mich. Gibt's bis heute nicht. Ich werde meine in 24 Jahren gewachsenen Labels und die zugehörige Armada von Filtern schmerzlich vermissen. Aber ich gehe das jetzt mal an und ziehe um.

Nu är spottan bytt mot Deezer och Loopia hostingen är flyttad till Inleed. Min flytt från big tech och företag som jag inte gillar börjar komma långt. Finally! I wanted to document this since quite a while: The #Gmail labeling system kept me quite a while from moving my mails away from Google.
In the end it wasn't too complicated -- if you know hw to do it ... (as usual)
Anyways, I've finally written it down. Maybe it helps somebody who want's to get off GMail.

OMG, someone reported today's Metacurity email as a phishing email, and it seems that Gmail has now reclassified it as phishing.
As a consequence, most of the recipients didn't open the email if the weirdly low open rate is any indication.
Does anybody have any advice on how to deal with this? Hasn't happened before.

When you're trying to get #Google to help them fix a problem they have in relaying an email to a list (they are forwarding as if it they are originating your non-GMail email, thus incurring an SPF failure) their helpful support team to the rescue (see image attached).

I get this mail about once a week now. Coming from some private e-mail address at hotmail, firemail, gmail, ... Subject: "Unsolicited application as Materials Scientist." or similar with different field (never maths) The senders are also different each time and the "values in the form" too, but the layout and text are always the same.
What is it? Too little variation for LLMs. It must be some software or service that markets sending this spam to people looking for jobs?

Têm conta no gmail ou em coisas semelhantes? Usem um programa de email e descarreguem as mensagens. Não as deixem simplesmente lš. Documentos? A mesma coisa. Trabalhem localmente, mesmo se fizerem uploads regulares.
Caso contršrio, correm este risco.

Ein weiterer Schritt im De-Googlifyen war nun, dass ich mich endlich mit einer Lösung für Kontakt-Synchronisierung beschäftigt habe. Einen CardDAV-Server gefunden (bzw. einfach die NAS daheim als solchen konfigurieren). Kontakte aus Gmail im vCard-Format exortieren, auf den Server schmeißen, dann das Adressbuch des Mobiltelefons darauf umlenken, bingo.

To be expected I suppose, but on rejecting #GMail's auto-inclusion of #GeminiAI snoops, seems it also disables Categories, the only feature that was keeping me on their email client!
Only related by the predator, another #Google surprise is notice my website's reCAPTCHA somehow now requires #GooglCloud for which they graciously offer me $300 credit and no indications whatsoever what that buys.
