OK, so. As if the Trump regime hadn’t already dumped enough of their shit on us here in Minneapolis…there’s now talk about them sending •active duty military• to invade (“protect”) our city.
Maybe this is bluster. Maybe this is testing the waters. We have no idea how real these plans are, or if or when this would actually happen. I don’t think the regime does either. Regardless, we take this threat seriously: they’re stupid enough they just might do it. This nightmare could get worse.

Mastodon's the right model. But to be truly *useful* politcally - the Bluesky/Mastodonian idea of "we will make our safe space over here" might be pleasant for many and that's fine
But they're not healthy for useful political discourse, which is often ugly, but generates the necessary talk.

This makes me so twitchy. This patient status page, served over HTTP and not HTTPS, has the credentials as query parameters. Such shocking op sec in a healthcare environment, both as a deployed solution and a commercial product.
We know the username, have a head start on the password (with a good idea of the encoding), and the presence of a “user privileges” tab [not pictured] suggests the account has more permissions than necessary.

"The arc of history bends towards justice."
- literally propaganda levels of distortion
- justice for whom?
- are you still talking about that weird Greeks -> Romans -> (white) Europeans -> American colonizers inconsistently ethnocentric idea of history?
"The arc of history bends towards material and sociological configurations which have long-term stability."
- true by definition
- highlights value of millennia-old indigenous sociological configurations and knowledge systems that are still around and which could reasonably outlast the current millennium-young self-destructive necropolitical mess
- applicable at any timescale of interest
- hard to say
Unfortunately, "nuclear wasteland" and "Venus" are both material configurations which have long-term stability, but history offers plenty of other options; not every human gets cancer.

Didn't all the idiots vote for Trump because "he tells it like it is"? He's telling you that he's taking over the media, he's telling you that he started a war that he has no idea how to finish, he's telling you that he wants to rig elections, he's telling you that he hates veterans and reports any absolutely anyone whom he considers "not loyal", he's telling you that he's an autocrat. And yet somehow they still don't hear him?

It's interesting to see folks starting to argue that humans should NOT be in the loop for AI workflows. Even whole companies are built around the idea.
From a software creation and library author perspective, does that mean we should start building SDKs for AIs to consume rather than other developers? In that case, verbosity, parameter explosion, and simple, composable methods make more sense than rationalizing what a person might expect to be obvious.

I was watching a YouTube video this morning where somebody was talking about a coffee app where you (the user) search for roasters in your area that you like and it shows you nearby coffee shops that use that roaster. You can then get a list of coffee's that you can buy from that coffee shop. It also has a journaling aspect to help you figure out what your favorites are. I kind of liked that idea.

Trade Idea Has Raiders Land $110 Million WR

Iran:
Arab nations in the region have already urged Trump not to attack Iran, an idea he has been discussing since early this month as the government there cracked down on protests engulfing the country.
Israel’s leader, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has also asked Trump to postpone any attack on Iran, a senior U.S. official said Thursday.
Israeli and Arab officials fear Iran would retaliate by striking their countries

Trump will do anything to grab power and prepare for dictatorial rule
He now floats the idea of U.S. boots on the ground in Mexico
"to fight drug cartels",
once again reinforcing his complete disregard for the concept of state sovereignty.
According to Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, Trump has been pushing for
"the participation of U.S. forces” even though Mexico says it’s not necessary.
Nonetheless, The New York Times has reported that…

The New York Times reported that
Meta is considering adding face recognition technology to its smart glasses.
According to an internal Meta document,
the company may launch the product
“during a dynamic political environment
where many civil society groups that we would expect to attack us
would have their resources focused on other concerns.”
This is a bad idea that Meta should abandon.
If adopted and released to the public,

"We don’t really think about our future – we remember it",
said Dr Hal Hershfield, who studies how humans think about time and how that influences our emotions and behaviors.
When we daydream or envision ourselves at a later point, we essentially create a memory.
We then use these memories to construct our ideas about the future.
This process is called “episodic future thinking”;
it supports our decision-making, emotional regulation and ability to p…

On TikTok and Instagram, young people are diving into the joys of Chinese culture – from drinking hot water to playing mahjong – all under the banner of “Chinamaxxing”.
On the Chinese internet, however, the US is losing its decades-long grip on soft power, and is instead being replaced by a darker trend: "the kill line".
The kill line is a dangerous place to be.
