Designers trying to fight PMs for "ownership" of decision-making find that they do less and less actual design.
Meanwhile, this model of vertical, touchpoint-based ownership is ALSO a poor fit for making a good user experience, because the experience cuts across multiple areas of ownership. Fighting over the obvious decisions leaves gaps and seams that make the experience a poor one.
Instead, designers should embrace another form of influence that fits our work better.

I’m a bit concerned that the OP’s framing takes scenario 1 as a given (or at least is likely to be understood that way). The history of the current AI bubble is full of warnings about AI that are secretly •advertisements• for AI, and I want to be careful not to fall into that trap.
(I doubt that’s the OP’s intent! But regardless of intent, it’s a danger, something to watch out for.)
