Abstract: We report a comprehensive evaluation of all known sources of systematic uncertainty for two independent $^{176}$Lu$^ $ single-ion optical references, finding total systematic uncertainty of $1.1\times10^{-19}$ and $1.4\times10^{-19}$ for the two individual systems and $9.6\times10^{-20}$ for the difference. Through direct comparison via correlation spectroscopy, we demonstrate a relative frequency agreement of $-2.4\pm(5.7)_\mathrm{stat}\pm(1.0)_\mathrm{sys}\times10^{-19}$, where `stat' and `sys' indicate the statistical and systematic uncertainty, respectively. The comparison uncertainty is statistically limited after approximately 200 hours of averaging with a measurement instability of $4.8\times10^{-16}(\tau/\mathrm{s})^{-1/2}$.

Abstract: The success of current and future-generation neutrinoless double beta decay experiments relies on the ability to eliminate or reduce extraneous backgrounds. In addition to constructing experiments using radiopure materials and handling in underground laboratories, it is necessary to understand and reduce known backgrounds in data analysis. The Large Enriched Germanium Experiment for Neutrinoless double beta Decay is searching for this decay using 76Ge-enriched high-purity germanium detectors submerged in an active liquid argon veto. A significant background in LEGEND is surface events from shallowly-impinging radiation on detector surfaces. In this paper we introduce the Collimated Alphas, Gammas, and Electrons (CAGE) scanning system, an internal-source scanning vacuum cryostat, designed to perform studies of surface events on sensitive surfaces of HPGe in a surface-lab. CAGE features a collimated radionuclide source inside a movable infrared shield that is able to perform precision scans of detector surfaces by utilizing three independent motor stages for source positioning. This allows detailed studies of pulse shapes as a function of source position and incident angle, where defining features can be extracted and exploited for removing surface backgrounds in data analysis in LEGEND. In this paper, we describe CAGE and demonstrate its performance with a commissioning run with 241Am. The commissioning run was completed with the source at normal incidence, and we estimate a beam spot precision of 3.1 mm, which includes positioning uncertainties and the beam-spot size. Using the 59.5 keV gamma population from 241Am, we show that low-energy photon events near the passivated surface feature risetimes that increase with radial distance from the detector center. We suggest a specific metric that can be used to discriminate low-energy gamma backgrounds in LEGEND with similar characteristics.

I don't think I'm ever going to enjoy gifts.
I can get why people would give them to children. After all, children don't have their own budget. However, I'm talking about occasional gifts, not a new toy every second week, because "we must outcompete the other grandparents". But to adults?
Once I've heard that you should gift people with what they won't buy themselves. Well, that's won't work for me. I'm a minimalist. If I don't need something, I don't want to have it. Unnecessary junk is only emotional burden to me.
I can get why you'd enjoy something handmade. But something people bought? If I need something, I can buy it myself, when I need it. And I definitely don't need people to prove to me that they never cared to learn who I am, and just buy whatever they like or whatever is "fashionable"; which usually means exactly the opposite of what I'd prefer (i.e. something minimalistic). Or even worse, I don't need people manipulating me through gifts.
Sweets? Besides my diabetes, I don't really enjoy expensive shit that people generally buy because it's what's advertised. For the money they waste on it, I'd buy three times as much sweets I'd actually enjoy.
Gift cards? Oh yes, "you aren't supposed to give money, so let's just give the equivalent of money that's actually worth less than money". Actual money? And here we reach the true nonsense; we exchange the same amount of money, so it's just pointless gesture. Unless one of us gives less money…
What I'd really like, as a gift? Maybe that people would finally bother accepting me as who I am. The absolute minimum of caring that I hate consumerism, and not fueling it "for me".

Dear Europe and others,
I've had a busy day.
I had work all day - as a hospice chaplain taking care of dying people.
This morning my mother went to the hospital for testing related to her dementia. Then, in the late afternoon she fell and had to go back for more testing. She's OK now.
And ICE shot a woman who did nothing wrong. And will probably get away free.
I'd love to protest in the streets but I'm just trying to live. I'll do what I can.

Thermal one-loop self-energy correction for hydrogen-like systems: relativistic approach
M. Reiter, D. Solovyev, A. Bobylev, D. Glazov, T. Zalialiutdinov
arxiv.org/abs/2512.06828 arxiv.org/pdf/2512.06828 arxiv.org/html/2512.06828
arXiv:2512.06828v1 Announce Type: new
Abstract: Within a fully relativistic framework, the one-loop self-energy correction for a bound electron is derived and extended to incorporate the effects of external thermal radiation. In a series of previous works, it was shown that in quantum electrodynamics at finite temperature (QED), the description of effects caused by blackbody radiation can be reduced to using the thermal part of the photon propagator. As a consequence of the non-relativistic approximation in the calculation of the thermal one-loop self-energy correction, well-known quantum-mechanical (QM) phenomena emerge at successive orders: the Stark effect arises at leading order in $\alpha Z$, the Zeeman effect appears in the next-to-leading non-relativistic correction, accompanied by diamagnetic contributions and their relativistic refinements, among other perturbative corrections. The fully relativistic approach used in this work for calculating the SE contribution allows for accurate calculations of the thermal shift of atomic levels, in which all these effects are automatically taken into account. The hydrogen atom serves as the basis for testing a fully relativistic approach to such calculations. Additionally, an analysis is presented of the behavior of the thermal shift caused by the thermal one-loop correction to the self-energy of a bound electron for hydrogen-like ions with an arbitrary nuclear charge $Z$. The significance of these calculations lies in their relevance to contemporary high-precision experiments, where thermal radiation constitutes one of the major contributions to the overall uncertainty budget.

Fun new piece of information. Google search results now include this text (I think it took less than an hour), but the LLM still doesn't know what a "walowadick" is.
This gives us a bit of signal, and we'll get some more as time goes on. Some of my other pieces, like the "towards a fractal anarchism" post on dbzer0 (slrpnk.net/post/18413750) has shown up in LLM results, but it seems like it took several weeks or maybe months.
So I'm guessing there are some regular encoding jobs, probably no more often than once every few months. It'll be interesting to get that signal and see what happens. I'd also be surprised if there isn't some kind of prioritization based on hits, but, again, we'll see what signal we get.

Abstract: The n2EDM experiment at the Paul Scherrer Institute aims to conduct a high-sensitivity search for the electric dipole moment of the neutron. Magnetic stability and control are achieved through a combination of passive shielding, provided by a magnetically shielded room (MSR), and a surrounding active field compensation system by an Active Magnetic Shield (AMS). The AMS is a feedback-controlled system of eight coils spanned on an irregular grid, designed to provide magnetic stability to the enclosed volume by actively suppressing external magnetic disturbances. It can compensate static and variable magnetic fields up to $\pm 50$ $\mu$T (homogeneous components) and $\pm 5$ $\mu$T/m (first-order gradients), suppressing them to a few $\mu$T in the sub-Hertz frequency range. We present a full finite element simulation of magnetic fields generated by the AMS in the presence of the MSR. This simulation is of sufficient accuracy to approach our measurements. We demonstrate how the simulation can be used with an example, obtaining an optimal number and placement of feedback sensors using genetic algorithms.

Analysis of collision shift assessments in ion-based clocks

Abstract: We consider back-ground gas collision shifts in ion-based clocks. We give both a classical and quantum description of a collision between an ion and a polarizable particle with a simple hard-sphere repulsion. Both descriptions give consistent results, which shows that a collision shift bound is determined by the classical Langevin collision rate reduced by a readily calculated factor describing the decoupling of the clock laser from the ion due to the recoil motion. We also show that the result holds when using a more general Lennard-Jones potential to describe the interaction between the ion and its collision partner. This leads to a simple bound for the collision shift applicable to any single ion clock without resorting to large-scale Monte-Carlo simulations or determination of molecular potential energy curves describing the collision. It also provides a relatively straightforward means to measure the relevant collision rate.
