Took longer than it prob should have, but I now have a 4tb (3.6, really, but who's counting) "Fikwot" (aka Kikwot, according to my OS) NVME SSD installed in my PC. Also PC got some bonus cleaning with the 20gal air compressor.
This Meshify case from Fractal doing a great job. It's been a year since the build, but there was just some caked on surface dust. Little bit of brushing and blasts of air and the PC looks almost new again.

Any recommendations for x86 mini-pc's with 2 (or more) Ethernet ports (ideally 2.5G)?
Bonus points for availability in EU.
My "usual" product only has gigabit ports.

Itching to get a little NUC or something that can handle jellyfin 4K files. Right now, I have a lab PC that's on its last leg. I don't do any transcoding, just direct play on my other beefier PC. 4K files have been fine but the poor lab PC crashes every 4 hours.
Anyone have any ideas?

I wanted to replace my home PC with my laptop for my daily tasks, but for some reason the old ViewSonic monitor is incompatible. It doesn't show up on the hdmi connections when I list them with xrandr and, what's worse, it's the same with all other laptops, no matter if they run Windows or GNU/Linux.
In the end, after testing it on 3 laptops and a minipc, it only works connected to my current PC.
Has anyone seen anything similar? 🤨

Saw a computer (desktop tower PC) on the side of the road today and stopped to see if there were any useful parts I could pull from it because I thought it would be hilarious to have parts in my NAS from a literal garbage PC on the side of the road.

I need your help. It's surprisingly hard to find a PC game (or port/emulation) that ticks the following boxes:
- generally easy, or with easy difficulty setting
- mostly linear, not open world
- story-driven
- ideally, controller support
You know what I mean? I'm looking for something relaxing for when my brain is exhausted where I don't have to make too many decisions.

Anyone have experience getting hibernate to work on Fedora 42 with Secure Boot?
Was surprised to find that I can't hibernate fedora without disabling Secure Boot on my dual boot gaming PC. Unfortunately, that's not an option. After doing research, it is wildly complicated to fix.

Between the "supply" charges, "delivery" charges, sales taxes, and system benefit charge, I calculate that my electricity (from Con Ed, in NYC) costs about 33.5 cents per kWh (plus roughly $30/mo basic service fee & tax surcharges).
Which is.. a lot. I calculate that my two (classic) CR boxes at 50W each cost about $25/mo to run 24/7, so switching to more efficient fans (PC fans or efficient hepa filter units) would pay for themselves reasonably quickly.

Of course, I don't know 'hardware', as you can tell from my technical description, but I have a sample from another tuning peg gear, and the peg and gear for testing, I get to Home Hardware and they have loose bolts of small dimension. I quickly learn that #6 is too large, #4 is too small and they have no #5's where the thread matches.
But you know what works? Do you remember those little chrome bolts with the hex-wrench heads that used to hold expansion cards in the ibm-pc? Perfect match, only 5mm too long, easily compensated by buying a matching nut and my 53-years owned pawnshop 5-string, my first banjo, is back in action!

I got to the syscon using my brothers win-pc ( coudnt auth or get the right com port addres on my linux system).
The system has errors related to RSX and i hope not also CELL, since error 3034 is mostly RSX related, but error 4422 on forums can be either CELL or RSX.

@… Funny, I was in the midst of trying Xfce on my Linux Mint, and liked the theming. I agree that Xfce is more themeable than most DEs, but I've decided to go back to Cinnamon, I think. I'll leave Xfce on my PC, in case I change my mind.

I just played my first couple of matches in Helldivers 2 (on PC), and it was a lot of fun! We were led by a guy who plays on PlayStation, and crossplay worked really well. No issues, no problems with voice chat. Everyone I met was really friendly.

104°f in the forecast today (so likely 100 here, generally tend to be a few degrees below the airport the local news channels use for their forecast) so it's a Steam Deck day. This saves the AC in the RV from having to fight down the heat from my PC/monitor. What am I doing on it? With all excitement and bling floating around I am enjoying my time today on GhostBSD Mate edition. Well rounded, everything works ootb, quiet styling (I've turned on a Dracula theme of course ;-).
Plus'es: samba , VLC, sound, LibreOffice, generic feel, the Stations (backup, software), sudo (I prefer doas, but newcomers will recognize sudo), install and go.
BSD generic: volume settings (mixer pcm etc), wifi (on a 2018 mini pc with Ryzen 2500U, seriously?) and of course BT are generic issues. Can be solved, but still.
Oh, and I forgot to mention that GhostBSD totally takes care of graphics drivers, dbus et al. I mean DisplayPort at 185hz ootb, great!
All in all a nice one 👍🏻, recommended!
