I'm in Australia right now. I can boot my home PC via Wake On LAN to access my files if I have to. I placed a webcam in front of it so that I can verify that it actually does so.
It's weird seeing my computer 16.500 km away from me. It feels like my own little Mars mission. Especially with how SSH feels at 300-400 ms latency.
And yes, that's a drinking glass I forgot on my desk.

My main PC is a HP Omen gaming PC with a 3090 Nvidia card 16GB of Vram, 80GB of ram, and 7TB of storage between the SSDs and the HDD.
I spent $1200 on it 4 years ago used. It's repreciated back up to that price.
I wonder if we're looking at a future where PCs prices age like real estate.

Valve are launching a new controller and a new gaming computer and a new VR headset early next year.
My main question is, don't people release these things in time for Christmas any more? Maybe it's running late.
Kinda need a media PC for the new bedroom in December. Do I want to wait until early next year? Grr. Needs to run two monitors and a projector really too, which may be tricky for a machine with only two video ports.
A VR headset that isn't owned by Facebook will be a blessed relief. Designed to run on Linux? Amazing. Hope it's brilliant.
Don't think I have much use for the controller though. Only really play games in VR these days.
Looks great! Three months too late!

Another day, another attempt at hotplugging my GPU.
I unplugged my GPU and removed all udev rules installed by the script I already mentioned. I started my PC and monitored the kernel log as well as udev for any events. Then I plugged in my GPU. It immediately powered up.
The good news: I didn't fry yet neither my GPU nor my PC, so that's a win I guess.
The bad news: There were no events, like, none at all. Repeatedly unplugged and replugged but always the same resu…

Who needs 32GB of system memory anyway? 🧐
I couldn't resist installing #CachyOS back on my main PC, on a separate SSD, alongside Windows. AMD is a first-class experience in Linux. I just downloaded The Alters, and FSR 4 simply works with my poor RX 7800 XT - without Optiscaler or any kind of manual DLL swaps.

Well, shit. Guess I picked a bad day to re-case my PC and upgrade the GPU. Everything went well until I tried to update the OS, which failed while tossing a Mesa dependency error. Did some checking, and it seems to just be a Mesa issue I can't really do anything about ATM. So I'm stuck in 4K/basic graphics driver mode, with screen tearing a-plenty, till tomorrow? Hopefully? lol.
The new case looks nice at least.

A black PC case sitting next to a black couch with a gray cover. A gray cat with a black Goth as fuck cone sits on the couch arm. A skull wearing a headset, and a 6 inch skeleton figure with its legs dangling down the side are on top of the case. You can see the purple intake fans in the side panel. the front panel is glass, with a light color wood accent on the right side.
View from the front glass panel, the purple fans are on the right. You can see through the heat sink fans to the exhaust fan at the back. The Thicc GPU (9070XT) sits under the heat sink.
view from the left corner of the front panel. Not much different from the previous pic other than you get a better view of the mobo, heatsink and GPU.

If you have Amazon Prime, you also have Luna Standard for gaming which includes Hogwarts Legacy for free, an excellent game. I see what Amazon is doing here, making gaming without a game console cheap and lock people in…
For a casual gamer like me, Luna is great, cheap, I can play on my large television or PC etc. Always good performance, no hardware necessary (besides a controller).
