Hi all! Yesterday we did a nice walk around a nearby village. I wanted to practice using foreground. As expected: not too easy!
How low do I have to go, which aperture, are there enough flowers, are they distributed "well" enough.
Is there a midground that contributes positively?
Well. It was a nice opportunity to practice! And this is the result..

MM: Different CS publication types:
- "doing CS”, e.g. using CS as a method but paper is describing findings from the project
- "science of citizen science", how is CS done?
- “Mix": presents both the research as well as the practice of CS
- “meta level": discuss CS in a larger context/academic fields
- “other”/“unclear”: Does not fit, or is it even related to CS?
Method: Search WoS (😭) for "citizen science", papers between 2010-22, at least one EU-based author: 1600 papers.

As cardiologist Eric Topol has said, “More than 20 years after the first human genome was sequenced, there’s relatively little to show for it in clinical practice.” It’s often said that the problem is to unravel the causal links: what the gene variant does to create the condition. But in all probability, many such studies lead to dead ends because the genes are not truly causal factors at all, or at least, not the most important ones. Not only have some recent successes in drug development l…
“At the dawn of his enlightenment, someone asked the Buddha, "What are your credentials? How do we know that you are enlightened?" He touched his hand to the ground. "This solid earth is my witness. This solid earth, this sane earth, is my witness." Sane and solid and definite, no imaginings, no concepts, no emotions, no frivolity, but being basically what is: this is the awakened state. And this is the example we follow in our meditation practice.” Chögyam Trungpa

Trying a new blog thing, a music practice journal. I kind of ran into a bit of a roadblock on my progress and threw up my hands for a bit. Trying to come back to playing again with some dedication and focus, but also looking to see ways to help push a bunch of my pieces over the finish line.
Anyone have any good tips for how to get pieces to a finished state when you are close, but aren't able to reliably play them consistently?
Over the past decades, we found out that the way we live in the rich countries of the world is not sustainable.
A common reaction is:
"Oh, that's not good. But any solution should:
1) ensure that we can keep living as we do, and
2) not be more expensive than current practice."

Ofcourse results needs to be verified and confirmed in practice but after reading the
MedGemini paper from Google there is no doubt in my mind AI will change the world of medicines. Not replacing people but augmenting them during diagnosis, operations and treatment of patients.

Recently I had a unit test that was failing about 10% of the time. The error was a DOM element was not found. Upon further investigation a factory that built a test response built a response 1 in 10 times that didn't produce the DOM element.
Though the behavior of the code was correct I didn't have a clear good best practice in mind for how to allow the factory to generate responses but exclude a specific shape that was invalid.

This Ford commercial on Twitter has high praise for strategies that are failing in practice: healthcare, housing, environment, education, etc.
But he fails to point out where his government excels - building wait lists. Need a family doctor, join a list. Need support for an autistic child, join 10s of thousands. Wait lists for surgery, complaining about landlord abuse, child care spots or public housing all have impressive growth rates.
It often feels that the humanities are going the way of the dinosaur entirely. We can't have a free culture if our culture is defined entirely by what iPad babies and Facebook Grannies are exposed to on the internet.
What I'm saying is, without literature worth studying, without people with the desire to study and practice culture, there will be no culture left over. No more free culture either. Our generations could be the last to read books or play music. Are we a dying bree…

You know how you almost never see an advanced chess game really played out? I mean, they play it out to the point where the inevitable loser sees their doom and resigns. The best (or, I guess, 2nd-best?) players see their doom well before beginners will. Some people even see the practice of grinding out an inevitable end-game as amateurish and rude.
Quite different in life. Once one notes that the remainder is doomed to be an unpleasant slide into the grave, people get all suicide-wat…

In tonight's sitting I was reminded how, for me these days, #meditation is matter-of-factly less about gaining a special state or a deeper relaxation, and more about participating appreciatively in what's present. The terms for that can sound exotic, like "suchness practice," but the practical experience brings a renewed regard for, as an example, Dōgen's instruction:
