When discussing scientific achievements made mostly or partly by AI systems, especially the headline-making ones, it's good to think about the resources being allotted to such projects, which are plausibly incomparable to previous investment. For instance, I suspect that no one had previously invested several millions of dollars to hire a team of mathematicians exclusively to tackle a single millennium problem.

Abstract: We introduce narrative keyframing, an interaction technique for AI-assisted creative writing that lets writers specify different types of narrative constraints at selected moments in a story, then use AI to generate intervening prose. Inspired by the use of keyframing in animation, narrative keyframing offers a flexible way to connect story planning with adaptive control over generated text. We explore three types of keyframes: plot keyframes define significant events in a story, character keyframes represent how individual characters change over the narrative, and perspective keyframes capture how individual characters experience different events through first-person narratives. Plot and character keyframes offer a flexible way to adapt the type of high-level conditioning explored in previous AI writing tools to more customizable, iterative, and fine-scale control, while perspective keyframes add a new way to control characterization and focalization by using first-person narratives as an intermediary. Through a user study, we show that narrative keyframing supports a more controllable, transparent, and engaging way to use generative AI in creative writing.

Abstract: Logic synthesis transforms RTL designs into gate-level netlists, where PPA results are highly sensitive to the choice of optimization commands, making synthesis tuning both high-dimensional and expensive. Previous approaches fall into two categories: automated methods, which perform black-box search over fixed action spaces with limited decision-level interpretability, and LLM-based methods, which typically generate static scripts upfront and cannot adapt to evolving circuit states. We present SynAct, an adaptive closed-loop LLM reasoning--acting agent that iteratively diagnoses live synthesis reports and reasons over the current circuit state, retrieved tool knowledge, and historical optimization experience to issue targeted commands. SynAct focuses on improving timing, particularly worst negative slack (WNS), while maintaining balanced area and power trade-offs. Experiments on a commercial synthesis tool across 14 designs show that SynAct reduces average WNS to 27% of that from bootstrap synthesis.

The question we discuss in this paper is how low can this speed be depending on the parameters of the studied potential. Abstract: Galaxy clusters provide unique laboratories for studying environmental effects on galaxy evolution. The morphology--density ($T$--$\Sigma$) and morphology--cluster-centric radius ($T$--$R$) relations trace how galaxy morphology is influenced by the environment, but previous studies at intermediate redshifts have been limited in both sample size and radial coverage. We use the Euclid Quick Data Release 1 (Q1) visual morphology catalogue to measure the $T$--$\Sigma$ and $T$--$R$ relations for smooth, featured-or-disc, and barred galaxies in known clusters at $0.2\leq z\leq 0.5$, extending this analysis to large cluster-centric distances ($3 R_{500c}$) and studying their dependence on stellar mass. Using photometric redshifts and stellar masses provided by Euclid, we identify 1754 cluster members within $1.5 R_{500c}$, distributed across 71 clusters. We classify the identified galaxies as smooth, featured-or-disc, or barred using the predicted vote fractions provided by the Zoobot deep learning foundation model in the Q1 visual morphology catalogue. We confirm the $T$--$\Sigma$ relation in all the stellar mass ranges studied, with a stronger influence of the cluster environment on galaxy morphology in the densest parts of the cluster and closer to the cluster centre. Beyond $1.5 R_{500c}$, the morphological segregation weakens, with featured-or-disc galaxies overtaking smooth galaxies at the lowest densities, consistent with the growing contribution of field interlopers in the cluster outskirts. For barred galaxies, we find a tentative decline of the bar fraction toward lower densities that is most pronounced for the most massive galaxies. In conclusion, our results show that the cluster environment drives a progressive transformation of galaxy morphology, with the loss of disc structure becoming more pronounced towards the cluster core, where environmental processes act most efficiently.

Abstract: Recently, it was demonstrated that the disagreement between lattice calculations and holographic models, regarding rotational effects in the quark-gluon plasma (QGP), occurs due to different choices of reference frames. While a static observer measures a confinement temperature that decreases with rotation, one in a co-rotating frame finds the opposite behavior. Both results are correct, and a comprehension of the frame-dependency of the critical temperature is a significant step in the description of the QGP under rotation. In this article, we generalize this previous holographic result by describing the plasma through the most general Myers-Perry black hole solution. This breaks the spherical symmetry present in the equal angular momentum case, considered before. As a consequence, the local temperature measured by a co-rotating observer has a non-trivial angular dependence: it can decrease, increase or even behave non-monotonically when rotational velocity increases.

Just doubled performance of the ngscopeclient CDR PLL on some workloads by fixing a bug causing it to run twice.
The PLL starts out with a small output buffer (since it doesn't know how much it's oversampling the input) then if it needs to generate more clock edges than the buffer can hold will expand the buffer and re-run. The size of the previous output is saved so next time it can make a better estimate of how much to allocate.

Abstract: We study holographic entanglement entropy in 3-dimensional AdS gravity with conformal boundary conditions which fix the conformal class of the boundary metric and its extrinsic curvature, $K$, while leaving the Weyl mode dynamical. Extending Lewkowycz-Maldacena-Dong's replica construction, we derive the corresponding holographic entanglement entropy formula. We show that the fluctuating Weyl mode does not contribute additional entropy. The entropy of the full boundary is therefore the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy, and the entropy of a boundary subregion continues to obey the Ryu-Takayanagi prescription, namely, the area of a minimal surface divided by $4G_N$.
We carry out explicit calculations for global AdS, rotating and non-rotating BTZ geometries. For an interval in AdS$_3$ we find that the $K$-dependent holographic entanglement entropy is governed by $c_m=\frac{3 \ell}{2 G_N}.$ For a thermal state at high conformal temperatures we find that, the entropy is governed by $c_{\rm eff}=\frac{3 \ell}{2 G_N} \frac{K \ell- \sqrt{K^2 \ell^2-4}}{2}$, the same effective central charge that governs the Cardy-like density of states, in agreement with previous results in the literature.
Finally, we also compute the entanglement entropy directly from the conjectured dual boundary theory - a holographic CFT coupled with time-like Liouville theory and deformed by a marginal $T \bar{T}$ like operator - and find $S_{EE} =\frac{c_{\rm eff}}{3} \ln\!\left(\frac{2 R \sin\phi_0}{\epsilon}\right) .$ This result for the state with no operator insertions (vacuum state ), provides an independent boundary realization of $c_{\mathrm{eff}}$ while clarifying that this state is not the state dual to global AdS.
