Working on a project that‘s still in development (creative development) and today I wrote up my recommendations for where it might register its domain names, since the project may not be to the current US presidential administration’s liking.
It is odd that that’s a reasonable concern.
Without a massive (and expensive) site reliability engineering (SRE) team, figuring out what might make things more resilient affordably is a nice way to try to find some control amid the chaos. …

If we’re entering an era where CSS innovation slows down a little and we catch our breath with Stage 2 sorta features and figuring out what to do with these new features, I’m cool with that. Sorta like…
• We’ve got corner-shape, so what can we actually do with it?
• We’ve got @layer now, how do we actually get it into a project?
• We’ve got View Transitions now, maybe we actually need to scope them for variety of real-world situations.

One of the great shames of my software career is that I have not once but •twice• been a part of a project where I found out only after I was off the project that a male manager or client had been just absolutely, utterly •wretched• to a female teammate.
In both cases, it happened out of my sight. I had no idea what was going on.
I still think to this day about my obliviousness: how I could have found out sooner, what warning signs I missed, what I could have done to stick up for my female colleagues.

Milwaukee County posted this photo of a repaving project with the text:
"The roadway now includes on-street accommodations for bicyclists"
They are getting absolutely roasted by cyclists in the comments.

Just as during his first term, El Cheato is stealing money for military housing to use for his pet projects.
During the first term that pet project was "the wall".
Now it is to give "bonuses" to active military personnel.
In both cases this means reduced, or no, housing for military families - which is what Congress intended when that taxpayer money was appropriated.
"Trump’s $1,776 ‘warrior dividend’ repurposed from military housing aid"…

I’ve seen students panic and ••delete their entire local clone•• of a project (discarding all of their unpushed work!!) because they were so sure they’re ruined everything when they encountered a tiny merge conflict.
Of course I try to counter this — warning them up front about what a merge conflict looks like, helping them overcome their fear of asking for help, doing hands-on exercises with intentionally creating merge conflicts — but the fact “OMG DELETE EVERYTHING” could •ever• be a newcomer’s response to a minor merge conflict is a blaring klaxon of design failure.

The manager herself I found peevish and difficult to work with on that project. She complained a lot, and was dismissive of my ideas.
In hindsight, I now realize she was dealing with sustained psychological abuse on a daily basis, just trying to hold it together. Of course she was peevish. She didn’t want my input. She wanted to survive. And I was oblivious.

webkb: WebKB graphs (1998)
Web graphs crawled from four Computer Science departments in 1998, with each page manually classified into one of 7 categories: course, department, faculty, project, staff, student, or other. All graphs included in a single .zip; also included are 'co-citation' graphs, which links i and j if they both point to some k. Edge weights count the number of links from i to j.

In one case, it turns out that an all-male client group was giving vicious beratings (undeserved!) to a female project manager when they had her cornered alone. I had no idea.
In the moment, I found those men kind of obnoxiously self-confident in their ignorance, but nothing worse. Later they want on a Trumpian scorched earth campaign trying not to pay everyone for work already done and threatening lawsuits willy nilly. They turned out to be horrible people. Missing that early red flag of misogyny cost us all — but especially that manager.
