no bake moji recipe
Recipe for those interested:
Mix 20ml simple syrup (mix one cup sugar with one cup water in a saucepan and heat until dissolved, this makes enough for a lot of cocktails and keeps well in the fridge) with juice of half a lemon and about 15ml of aqua faba (water from can of chickpeas, red kidney beans also works well). Shake with lots of ice in cocktail shaker and strain into glass. If you're not strictly no-alcohol, add a dash of angostura bitters before shaking.
Enjoy in cool, twilit garden, ideally in a hammock while listening to the swifts screaming overhead...

"if Burnham wants his promise of breaking with 40 years of neoliberalism to be taken seriously, trying to find consensus on social care policy with the market-mad Tories is a recipe for disaster. Labour has a huge majority: it should be used, as it once was to create the NHS — against Conservative opposition."

Two kinds of robustness are not the same: disentangling fault tolerance and low-SNR robustness in multi-domain event detection on real data

Abstract: Reliable event detection underpins induced-seismicity monitoring for Carbon dioxide Capture and Storage (CCS) and geothermal operations, distributed acoustic sensing (DAS), and industrial condition monitoring. In each setting a detector must stay reliable both when sensors fail and when the signal is buried in noise. These two failure modes are routinely conflated, and architectural complexity is often credited with robustness it may not deserve. We assemble a unified binary event-detection benchmark from three physically distinct real sources -- Hi-net seismic waveforms, Utah FORGE 2024 borehole DAS, and MAFAULDA industrial vibration -- each mapped to a common 8-channel, 256-sample representation, and evaluate a fault-tolerant detector (CEPHALON) trained with per-sample sensor-dropout against standard detectors (a 1D convolutional network, a temporal convolutional network, and a compact Transformer) trained with an identical recipe. On clean data every model is near-perfect (AUC ~ 0.99). Under progressive sensor loss, simple models with sensor-dropout are already robust and CEPHALON holds no advantage. Under additive noise, however, CEPHALON degrades far more gracefully: at -2.5 dB its overall AUC is 0.939 versus 0.532-0.572 for the convolutional baselines. Same-architecture ablations isolate the cause: disabling internal redundancy at inference reduces the low-SNR advantage only modestly, whereas removing sensor-dropout training collapses it (0.899 to 0.603 at -5 dB). The training recipe is therefore the dominant cause and parallel redundancy only secondary. We release a complete, numbered, reproducible pipeline so that every figure can be regenerated.

I keep getting recommendations for these YouTube shorts of a lady wearing a hijab and cooking recipes. The thing is, every recipe includes pork or bacon. I'm so confused.
I make this rice/bulgur pilaf thing. It's really not much - it's among the least involved meals I make. Every time, the family's reaction surprises me: everyone eats it, not only without complaint, but with relish. Don't they know it's not a recipe so much as a way of cleaning out whatever happens to be in the fridge/pantry!

Discretisation and independent resolutions of ample groupoids

Abstract: We develop a general framework for understanding and computing both the groupoid homology of an ample groupoid and the topological K-theory of its reduced C*-algebra, based on two main ideas: discretisation and independent resolutions. Discretisation shows that a special class of ample groupoids we term independent groupoids are homologically and K-theoretically equivalent to discrete groupoids. We introduce the notion of a resolution by independent groupoids and provide a recipe for building a controlled independent resolution of a given ample groupoid of interest, leading to a systematic way of studying its homology and K-theory. In order to illustrate our general ideas and methods, we work out several concrete examples and applications. Garside categories provide a wide range of examples, including higher rank graphs, self-similar groups and spherical Artin-Tits groups. We also present an application to the homology of Stein's groups.

Summer Social with work, which is more than two dozen people now. So much bigger than it used to be.
Enjoyable enough. The boss picks pretty good people, all of whom I'd otherwise not meet at all really being remote. Beats working for a day.
This time a painting session. Drawing a picture. Here's how we draw this particular picture.
Everyone's painting ends up much the same, within a pretty tight variance. All end up with something that's not displeasing, even though hardly anyone paints normally, even the graphics people.
The key here I think is the subject of the image. Something easy to draw is key. Very few curves, mostly straight lines, easy vivid colors. Easily identifiable subject even if it's drawn badly.
If your lines and form are wobbly and weirdly angled then yeah, that's indeed what these trees are like. You just draw a slightly different tree.
Sky, haze, and ground in acrylic. Then chalk up the tree-trunks for some reason, before painting 'em white. Add some trunk-shade and flecks, do grass then flowers.
Easy recipe. Everyone gets a passing grade. Nobody's embarrassed coz they can't draw a nose.
Good first painting session since school. Maybe I'll do another one in another 30 years.
