The solar PV story is pretty incredible. China's long term strategic plan (with all the negative things that went with it) is bearing amazing fruit that's changing the economic proposition around the world, especially in the poorer (colonised) global South: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8JFCJP70rg…
Finally getting around to trying to do something with the shattered solar panel I ended up with when the couriers failed twice to not smash part of my order. The PV layer under the tempered glass is still intact and functional, so my plan is to fill the impact point with CA glue, then coat the entire top with urethane to improve its weather resistance, and ultimately use it to directly power a PTC heating element in a shed. *Any* additional free heat in that building is a plus, and *any* ben…

If you are an anti-fascist, you are against petroleum. Petroleum funds fascism globally. It is at the heart of the military industrial complex driving global imperialism, from both the US and Russia. Motonormitivity is fascist, both in it's elitist roots and in it's ties to historical fascism (Hitler hated bikes, just on principle). Oil is militarism.
Oil is the dominant resource which drives war, both in terms of it being the primary spoil wars are fought over and in terms of fueling the military vehicles and weapons that carry out those wars. Practically every war since (and including) WWII has been over oil. Genocides are carried out to secure oil. Gaza is over oil, in more ways than one.
Oil is the absolute enemy, and AI is simply an extension of that: an attempt to atomize us so we can't resist the oil-centric global order, one last grasp at the control over our lives oil has given to those whose power is now threatened by a solar punk future.
"I haven't written for a few weeks now. As I write the closing chapter and begin rewriting previous sections, everything feels both more distant and more immediate. The working title [Kairos] has only continued to feel more and more resonant, both during the writing and during my pause."
Now is the time to resist by making something different, by creating a world fundamentally opposed to these systems of oppression.
This is the last in my Kairos series. From here on out I'll be editing to try and make it more of a book than a series of posts. Thanks to everyone who has helped so far. All editing is welcome (typos, spell checks, questions and challenges). Between ADHD and dyslexia, it's always hard for my brain to notice mistakes in my own text so I always appreciate the support of those who can.

15.6 kWh solar generation today, new record (unsurprisingly... the days are getting longer plus we are having a sunny spell).
This month so far, production has averaged around 10% of my consumption although I expect both to be climbing soon (my big scope is back from service, and spring is coming next month) so it'll be interesting to see what happens after that.
Total YTD production is 194.8 kWh although that includes 12 days of zero production with the system offline betwee…

Western Australia just hit a major milestone: solar and wind powered 100% of demand on its isolated grid.
Battery storage made it possible, keeping the system stable while renewables did all the work. With coal plants set to retire by decade's end, the state is proving large-scale grids can run entirely on clean energy.
Sharing the benefits of grid-scale batteries and solar/wind by trading in western US. The current 15 minute market in California Now going to day ahead market.
(I think made possible with recent massive grid-scale batteries allows evening out of renewables)
California now runs 5pm-8pm electricity use on batteries. Turn off more plants cuz can plan for a full day.

Astronomers have long sought evidence to explain why comets at the outskirts of our own solar system contain crystalline silicates, -- since crystals require intense heat to form and these “dirty snowballs” spend most of their time in the ultracold Kuiper Belt and Oort Cloud.
Now, looking outside our solar system, NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope has returned the first conclusive evidence that links how those conditions are possible.
The telescope clearly showed for the first ti…
Neighbors with solar panels can now trade energy directly with each other, thanks to a breakthrough cloud-based system from Washington State University.
The platform lets communities share power locally, cutting energy costs by up to 12% in testing. It's a glimpse of how neighborhoods could become mini power grids, keeping solar energy local instead of sending it back to utilities.

This system captures solar energy and, rather than converting it into electricity, uses it to produce hydrogen fuel on demand—even in darkness.
The new system provided twofold benefits: it made solar energy available even when the sun isn't shining, and it eliminated the need to transport hydrogen in dangerous, high-pressure tanks.

Watched Solar Opposites, a cartoon started by Justin Roiland like Rick and Morty with lots in common.
Including Roiland being kicked out after a couple of seasons for his crimes, and being replaced. This time not with an impersonator but just a new more british actor. Stayed pretty much in vibe with his style though.
Four aliens stuck on earth, plus the adventures of the tiny people that one of the aliens shrunk to keep in his wall like an ant farm. And the Silver Cops.
Pretty good fun. Watched the five seasons on Netflix in a couple of weeks. Apparently there's another if I search or wait.
Interesting how the machine can just keep churning it out even when the lead folks disappear. That's the ideal I suppose. Create the show then let it run on without you.

Australia is now far ahead of Canada. Why…?
"Australia’s long, complicated and difficult energy transition is finally working. As our recent research suggests, if these trends continue – and nothing new goes wrong – we should begin to see lower retail electricity bills by mid-2026. As more coal plants close and new transmission and storage infrastructure is delivered, electricity prices could rise again. But overall, shifting demand from gas and coal for power and petrol for cars is likely to deliver significantly lower energy bills for households.”
