Re: discourse about #FediSoWhite
I'm a white man. Was on Twitter throughout #BLM and gained an awful lot of free education from Black folks on there. That was the start of me consciously following diverse folks which is a strategy that's improved my life immensely.
Back on Twitter before the Muskening, there was a lot of diversity. Black Twitter was a thing, and not just first-world (anyone else remember "O jewa ke eng?"). When I went looking for people to follow to diversify my feed, I found them in abundance.
That's why it's so clearly false to me when people claim that the fediverse is secretly diverse, and why anyone making that claim sounds suspect to me. Sure there are a ton of great Black and other POC folks you can find on here, if you look hard. But it's nowhere near the levels of diversity and community that were on Twitter. Which you would know had you been following those people before, so now I have to assume you weren't, and wonder why you feel qualified to make statements about diversity even though you haven't made an effort to engage with diverse voices before?
Also, if you were actually following some of the excellent POC voices on here, you'd know that across different servers and interest groups, almost every group has had a discussion of #FediSoWhite at some point. If all the Black people you follow are independently talking about the lack of community and diversity here, you've either got to believe them or start putting on your clown makeup, and the later is absolutely a choice.

Oh #thicktrunkTuesday might be a good day for this photo that I took on a recent hike.
It's one of my usual hikes but clouds or fog always make it so special as the usual background is gone and I see the motives in a complete different way.
And believe it or not - I went this path over 10 times but I've never seen that tree the way like at that day.

A misty winter morning unfolds in this evocative black-and-white scene, where the world seems wrapped in a blanket of quiet serenity. A solitary, leafless tree stands prominently in the foreground, its bare branches reaching upward into the foggy sky. The tree's stark silhouette contrasts beautifully with the soft, muted tones of the mist, creating a sense of solitude and contemplation.

The ground is lightly dusted with snow, adding to the wintry atmosphere. A simple wooden fence runs along th…

Content warning: Brief rant on AI & capitalism

We are cooked.
We were always a problem for the ones above: we had the opportunity to enjoy high levels of education, access to relatively free & unpolluted knowledge, and welfare systems that worked relatively well for at least half of our lifes.
That was unacceptable, and "AI" is here to fix that.
Big Tech and their fascist friends have convinced many among our younger generations about the idea that "AI" (in its current form) is cool, amazing, necessary, and unstoppable.
We can resist all we want, except it's not our resistance that matters, but the resistance of the younger ones who haven't finished their formal studies yet.
Mozilla's CEO knows it... so he'll happily contribute to dumb us down as much as possible (before anyone has time to react) to ensure that we don't bother ever again the fragile sensibilites of his friends, our capitalist overlords.

A black-and-white image of a vertical measurement gauge beside a road. The gauge is marked from 30 to 100 in increments of 10, with smaller divisions in between. It stands in front of a metal railing. In the background are trees, a white car, a bus, and a multi-story building. The gauge likely measures water levels or clearance height. The urban setting contrasts with the utilitarian design of the gauge.

Good morning from Brentford

Looking through a three-panelled window three hours after sunrise, we can see a few green bushes and some leafless trees. The sky is blank and grey.

You see a detective on the TV and he’s interviewing all the suspects asking them what they were doing on the night of the murder a month ago last Tuesday night.
And on the TV, the suspects all know. Right away.
If you asked me ten years ago though, I’d have had barely any clue. If you’re lucky it’d have been something planned in my calendar but mostly, dunno. Watching TV maybe? No idea what show. Was that a night I was in the pub?
As we all get older this problem increases I’m told. Eventually full on senility sets in.
But what if you have already built the habit to record what you’re doing? To be able to look back and revise and review how you spent your days? An external aid as a crutch to your own forgetful brain’s cortex?
So I started this Exocortex Log over a decade ago and now I can answer: Ten years ago on Tuesday I was having dinner with the guitarist from my band and his girlfriend and they burned the pudding.
The app has been half finished and barely able to even record let alone review for most of that time, but now it’s ready enough that someone else might use it too if they want.
Try it out: #lifeLog #app #memoryAid

Added a category manager and category state section to the Exocortex Log app.
Have now organized and cleaned up the categories in my ten year database and so we can get some views of the time spent in each category.
We see that through September and October I was in a routine of work and slack with a bit of social a couple of times a week, until the end of November when I went away for social at a conference all weekend. I saw a demo there of a person using Shakespeare, and then when I got back started doing some vibe-coding, shown in in Red.
A break from that to go away at the weekend to a long social party then finish it off and publish a few days ago, since when Vibe Coding has dropped off a little.

Some more photos from my location scouting to the lake shore.
Obviously it was quite foggy and cold!
On location I was already pretty sure that these would be monochromes. but I struggled to really see motives at first. Luckily I went there just to take photos, not hiking.
Sometimes I just stood there for a while and was looking around to ... see whats around.

A this photo from yesterday's location scouting could fit for #thickTrunkTuesday , right?
It's been quite a time since I went to a new location with the clear intent of location scouting. - It took me a while until I was able to "see" something as I was so much in walking/hiking-mode.
But it was a good experience to do it again.

This black-and-white image captures a serene and somewhat mysterious winter scene. A large, leafless tree stands prominently in the foreground, its intricate branches reaching out in all directions. The tree is surrounded by a light layer of frost, adding a delicate texture to the scene.

The background is shrouded in a thick fog, creating a sense of depth and obscuring the landscape beyond the tree. The fog gives the image an ethereal and tranquil quality, evoking a sense of calm and solitude.…
