I planted this Rowan tree 5 years ago. It was a thin stick about 15cm long with a bit of root on one end. It came in the post. It's now almost as tall as the house! #PlantTrees

I’ve generally disliked my institution’s LMS (that’s software to track course assignments, grades, etc.) since I first started using it in 2008. Grudgingly tolerated, but disliked.
Today, however, that changed. Today, to see if something I wanted to do was technically possible, I finally dug into the source code.
Where there was dislike, there is now terror. I have no idea how this software runs, ever, at all. I don’t understand how it isn’t hacked •constantly•. I am not sure if I will ever use it again. I am not sure if I will ever use a computer again. The code sits somewhere between “maniacal conspiracy theorist corkboard” and “eldrich horror.”
After reading the code, I had to just sit silently and stare at a blank wall for a while.

Just found out that an old intranet we initially created for a customer back in 2008-9 (on Drupal 4.7 or maybe 5, subsequently upgraded through to Drupal 6) is still running (not on the open internet). Their MS Sharepoint replacement for it has been... less than stunningly successful in its designated role.
I suspect that original Intranet, even inflation adjusted, would've cost the orders of magnitude less in up-front development and per-year maintenance.

Harnack inequality for degenerate fully nonlinear parabolic equations
We consider degenerate fully nonlinear parabolic equations, which generalize the p-parabolic equation with $p>2$ to nondivergence form operators. We prove an intrinsic Harnack inequality for nonnegative solutions and a weak Harnack inequality for nonnegative supersolutions. These results can be seen as the nondivergence form counterparts of the results by DiBenedetto, Gianazza and Vespri (Acta Math. 2008) and Kuusi (Ann. Sc. Norm. Super. Pisa 2008).
