So i just threw together a first iteration of the switch engine PCB schematic in one crazed allnighter (thanks non 24 hour sleep schedules lol, its 0900 and I'm almost ready for bed).
It's missing some details like mounting holes and such, plus a few odds and ends like a 2.5V LDO and level shifter on the rs232 console, but I think it's 80% or so done. Lots of copy paste from kup-lulz and lcbringup which was of course the intent, those projects were intended to de-risk the s…

In Poland’s golden hour, a looming threat to Europe’s unity
Across Europe’s newest economic powerhouse,
where living standards have leapfrogged Japan’s and are on course to surpass Spain’s and Israel’s,

Lovely day in Canberra today - we went for a bit of a suburban amble and a coffee stop this afternoon before the wee one descends upon us again. He was here from Sunday to Wednesday night and he's due back in an hour or so (another unplanned visit). We love him but a 2 year old in the house for days at a time is exhausting for us 60 year olds. 😍😩😍

Lineless head of my river otter sona Jay. He's cream up to his cheeks, then orange, except for around his eyes. He has dark blonde hair (more brown-ish than anything) and some strands cover half of his right eye, which has a small heart-like mark under it.

Field Diary 2025
I very rarely have time to write a proper field diary, our time in the field is usually extremely hectic and filled with 12-18 hour working days that blend seamlessly together. I suspect this week is also going to be busy, but Nature has offered an olive branch in the shape of an early break-up of the sea ice, so I'm taking a moment to write a few things down.

And quit your whinging about #inheritancetax - even the few farmers that do qualify will only pay half the rate that non-farmers do.

Content warning: "Golden Dome" SASS?

😆 Missile Air Defense As a Service
MAD AS you like.
In some ways a government paying by a subscription for a missile defense service has been inevitable since Reagan started the mission to Privatize Literally Everything.
The government will own nothing, and be happy.
States must do only one thing: Pay money to rich people to get them to do the things.
The idea of Reagan's Star Wars returning is pretty crazy in itself. That launching all those satellites would massively enrich the government's biggest donor is mostly just pretty typical corruption.
But having the government pay to rent it out is just amazing. 🧑‍🍳 💋
Hey, if Russia and China outbid America during the hour they were launching the missiles, that's just the free market!
Never really even know if it works without being attacked, but the rich owners get to extract the wealth from it all the same.
Rentierism? In this economy?
🤣

I'm only 41 years into this life and today I remind myself yet again:
I can only live in the now and I cannot control the future from here.
In 5 mins or an hour, and certainly by tomorrow I'll be telling myself this again.
I'm a slow learner and I have a slight suspicion I'll still be telling myself this 40 years from now.

I was never one for noting the pagecounts of books. My measurements were usually "about one third done". Doing ebooks means that I think of a progress as percentages and length in hours.
For most of this year I read books that were over 25 hours long and am now in the three hour range.
Of course this is distorted. Reading during the day is usually quicker and if I fall asleep before turning off the e-reader (which happens a lot) the estimates get thrown off by the idle …

True story time, from about 8 years ago.
After work, I joined few co-workers for happy hour. I had 1 or 2 alcoholic drinks, then cut myself off and drank soda rest of the night, for many reasons including I wanted to be 100% sober to drive home.
One guy was rude, insisted I keep drinking, said I was ruining the fun.
