Interesting that while Abundant SF's head is taking shots at Zohran, Abundance New York endorsed him.
(Fifth, but they still favored him over Cuomo. They said "Zohran Mamdani is more likely to prioritize the central crises facing New Yorkers.")

Todd David, the political director of Abundant SF who helped elect moderates to the San Francisco Democratic Party, said New York could be in for a bumpy ride.

"If Mamdani ultimately becomes the mayor, I do think New York is going to struggle," David said. "It's very hard to govern urban centers from the left. New York could really struggle with its business community, and public safety would probably take a hit."
Abundance New York endorsements for NYC Mayor:
1. Zellnor Myrie
2. Brad Lander
3. Adrienne Adams
4. Whitney Tilson
5. Zohran Mamdani

SF folks: please call your supervisor and ask them not to redirect permanent affordable housing funds to temporary shelter
it’s likely illegal and it’s nonsense: the shelters would free up if people could exit to permanent housing!

All 5 SF YIMBY endorsed supervisors—Sauter, Engardio, Mahmood, Dorsey, and Melgar—voted to take $34 to $53 million away from building permanent affordable housing, *and* to ban RVs from all city streets.
So much for "legalize housing." With YIMBYs like this, who needs NIMBYs? #sfPol

What I really like to see is that 35% of visitors to Sunset Dunes Park are from adjacent neighborhoods! (That is a plurality, by the way.)

A pie chart that shows where visitors to Sunset Dunes Park come from, on a photo looking north along the park, showing people walking and roller skating, and misty hills in the background. The breakdown of visitors is 35% from nearby, 27% from other parts of SF, 19% from the SF peninsula, 12% from the East Bay, and 7% from more distant locations (world-wide, based on people I've overheard in the park)

Mayor Lurie has to be reined in. He thinks he's CEO of the city and can do whatever he wants, and the Board of Supervisors keeps rolling over and letting him. Good on Kathrin Moore for this

oh sure SF Chronicle, blow up my spots
they cite as underrated parks: Holly Park, Ina Coolbrith Park, Corona Heights, Golden Gate Heights, Sutro Heights, Bayview Park, Visitacion Valley Greenway, Crane Cove Park, Glen Canyon Park.
I feel like Glen Canyon and Corona Heights are quite well known. strong picks otherwise

One of the RV dwellers Lurie plans to displace is a staffer helping Joel Engardio fight his recall. #sfPol
sfstandard.com/2025/07/11/l…

Many RV dwellers are not there by choice. Devin Plant scrapes by tutoring SF State students in data analytics, he said, and has a job canvassing against the recall of Supervisor Joel Engardio. But it’s not enough to live on, and he’s flat broke. He said a city crackdown is the last thing he needs.

Situation: There are 13 different bike, transit, and safe streets advocacy groups in SF.
“13?! This is ridiculous! We should make a single group that covers everyone’s priorities!”

SFMTA is adding left turns back to Valencia at 17th, 21st and 23rd streets with a new phase, which will cut down on time for pedestrian and bike crossings. The word is that Mayor Lurie directly ordered this. Signal modifications are very expensive and that money could have gone to safety or transit priority.
Seems small, but it's wasteful and adds to the "death by a thousand cuts" for Transit First in Lurie's SF.

No one wants to live on Van Ness because it's a loud car sewer. Condo listings with a Van Ness address will tell you in all-caps if the unit doesn't face Van Ness. There's also no green space there. It makes housing on the corridor a passing-through place rather than somewhere to set down roots.

In Jason Henderson's 2013 book Street Fight he writes of SF transportation politics as a function of 3 factions: conservatives, neoliberals, progressives. How the street fights go depends on how those factions align. If you slot in YIMBYish urbanist types—those who are pro-bike, pro-business, believe that Dean Preston was blocking housing—as the neoliberals, this holds up surprisingly well today.

we should trick SF politicians by asking them which is their favorite Caltrain line

much smaller scale, but Mayor Lurie's SF budget increasing money for cops and jails while slashing social services (eviction legal aid, food bank, etc.) rhymes with the federal bill throwing people off Medicaid to fund concentration camps and ICE.

Looks like it wouldn’t be too hard for ICE to tap the Flock cameras increasingly deployed around SF, if they aren’t already, by asking either SFPD or other PDs it shares access with to do the searches for them
