🥳 New Kitten Release
• Reduces minimum Bash version requirement for installing Kitten to Bash 3.2 (was previously Bash 5 ). This removes the requirement for people on macOS to upgrade the ancient version of Bash that Apple ships with their desktop operating system. (If you’re on Linux none of this was ever an issue for you.)¹
• Updates runtime to Node 24.12.0, the latest long-term support (LTS) version.

Node.js devs, so picture this: you run `npm install` and you get a bunch of packages with audit errors.
The only thing I want to know at that point is what’s the root package that these dependencies belong to? (Running npm audit fix is a last resort as I don’t like it fiddling around with the dependencies of nested packages.)
It’s also not a straightforward thing to do, but it’s nothing jq and a bit of piping can’t fix:

If you want to stop something using namespaces, e.g. to stop Glycin using bwrap namespaces; the easiest way seems to be to run it in a namespace using bwrap!
/usr/bin/bwrap --bind / / --dev /dev --disable-userns --assert-userns-disabled --unshare-user /usr/bin/bash

It doesn't matter if I use `$'`, `''` or `""` to quote the IFS, the IFS does not seem to get used for concatenating the array elements. Bash version is 5.3.0.

A good day is when I learn something new. Today I learned a small thing in AWK for IF statements. It makes the life of the team easier now as I can allow for multiple year checks on an input file. This coming December I can set it up to handle 2026/2027 dates without causing an error message like we received today. I knew how to do it in APL, BASIC, C, dBase, PASCAL, PL/1, COBOL, FORTRAN, REXX, RUST, SQL and BASH. Never did it in AWK.

I think the SFTP server is down again. Expected files not in our INBOX and it happens on a semi-regular basis and usually after a weekend.
On my Linux box I had a very simple CHRON setup to run a specific BASH script. On my work WIN11 machine I have automated running a specific program every Monday morning checking for a specific item.
