Of all the reasons I'm glad to be switching to Linux from Windows, two bugs stand out:
- The way trying to uninstall a program in Windows takes 5 minutes for it to scan the drive, then another 5 minutes for the uninstaller to delete files one at a time
- The way I can't shut my Windows system down, a shutdown causes it to reboot itself. This is a well documented bug affecting millions of systems!

It's funny how ive been a systems person forever, and homelabbing forever, using Linux forever, but these days I'm not a power user at all. I just don't have much drive to fine tune my user experience at all.... Even kicking the tires on an path for RSS-based consumption makes me realize how much fine-tuning I need to do in terms of managing and filtering content, workflow, etc.
But this is the price I guess I have to pay if I want to detox from doom scrolling.

I'm looking for a hat I can wear (e.g. in car) here with the Arizona sun and I'm finding stories instead.
Like this one, the backslash in the prompt is missing and it's likely that it was due to whatever software was used was swallowing up the character—perhaps when sanitizing strings.
The default system prompt in DOS was just "C>" (letter of current drive plus a ">" character, though basically everyone changed it to include the current directory, so it would have been "C:\>" after boot.
(The reason why it was defaulting to just the drive letter is that early versions of MS-DOS didn't have support for directories.)

Today's Windows 10 Annoyance: I'd like to do a drive integrity check on an SD card without automatically fixing any problems it finds.
Why? Because based on the issues found/proposed fix, I might make some additional attempt(s) to recover data first.
I'd swear earlier versions of Windows let you do things like have it summarize any problems discovered without applying any fixes. The command line chkdsk sort of does this.

I have a (relatively new) usb-to-sata drive dock that mysteriously has super slow speeds with just a single drive that I own, and is fine w/ the rest.

These types of things regularly destroy otherwise well organized groups. If we could develop practice exercises around sexual violence, bad-jacketing, and interpersonal conflict, we could significantly decrease state leverage against movements and internal disruption.
Bad things happen. We will have to deal with those bad things. The more experience we have dealing with them (even in simulation), the more easily we'll be able to manage them and the more often we'll be able to do the right thing.
But yes, this would need to be at the very least informed by DV/SV survives to make sure scenarios drive towards the right conclusions.

Microsoft, Amazon and Google’s collective carbon emissions
have increased by nearly a fifth in the past year,
driven largely by datacentre construction.
In the financial year ending March 2026, the three tech companies emitted
119m mTCO₂e (metric tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent),
or about a third of those of France.

Martha Lillard had just turned 5 when she was diagnosed with polio
and depended on an iron lung to live.
She died June 26 in Oklahoma,
the last U.S. polio patient who used the machine, her sister said. She was 78.
“They told her she wasn’t supposed to live past 20 years old,”
