“Additional direct manufacturing costs do not fully explain the higher prices of electric cars outside China. [..] in Germany, the retail price difference is more than double the manufacturing cost difference.”

Sweden just hit a massive milestone: electric vehicles now make up 65.4% of all car sales, with pure battery EVs at 40.4% and plug-in hybrids at 25%.
Volvo EX40 led the pack, while combustion-only cars dropped to just 21.8%. And it's about to accelerate even more—new government incentives kick in for 2026.

Brines in the 160-kilometer-wide lake yielded more than 50,000 tons of lithium carbonate last year,
enough for hundreds of thousands of electric cars.
A good example of how governments can make the roll-out of public charging infrastructure faster and cheaper: by integrating permission for construction work into an existing digital platform for road works.

Wow, you *really* produce bad #quality if your #EV (with much less moving parts) is worse than all the non-electric #vehicles of a list. 😲
Avoid buying
Just had an elderly women neighbour in for tea. Cars came up, and I said we've been electric since 2017. She looked horrified and asked how we managed -they'll only go for 50 miles before the battery is flat!
I blame the Telegraph and the Daily Mail for poisoning the minds of little old ladies.
A lot of journalistic pieces contain too little information. But here's one that is chock full of interesting stuff, not details, but hooks for deeper inquiry. That stuff goes far beyond the topics in the headline. For instance I had never previously considered subway cars as a potential form of spyware.

Reducing (some of) the #EV benefits is never a popular measure. Perhaps that is why it is being introduced now, after the recent elections.
At the same time, the incentive remains in place, because the purchase tax on fossil fuel engines is also increasing, as are fuel taxes.

To what extent is this on the radar of #EV advocacy groups in the US? I certainly wasn't conscious of the potential barriers until reading this article.

"A mileage-based charge for electric and plug-in hybrid car drivers from 2028 and a short-term freeze in fuel duty are among the key changes announced in the Autumn Budget 2025"
So am I right in thinking that this #budget has penalised electric cars and benefited fossil fuel vehicles?
That seems... Highly counter-productive.
Australian household energy bills will⭐️ halve by 2050 ⭐️as solar panels, batteries and electric cars and appliances become the norm,
reducing pressure on the federal government over living costs and creating room for more climate action, a thinktank study suggests.
Modelling by the Grattan Institute finds that cutting greenhouse gas emissions from electricity generation in line with the goal of reaching net zero emissions by 2050

Let the People Decide: Give Us a Vote on Autonomous Vehicles
Autonomous vehicles (AVs) have flooded San Francisco’s streets, raising serious safety and traffic concerns for residents, pedestrians, animal advocates, and local businesses. In 2025 alone, both Waymo and Zoox recalled over 1,200 vehicles due to crash risks. AVs have also blocked emergency vehicles, caused traffic jams, and created dangerous situations for people walking, biking, and driving. Ride-hailing services like Uber and Lyft already made traffic worse, accounting for about half th…
Yesterday, I read about an innovative project to develop a special kind of road that charges electric vehicles while driving. It made me think that yet again, capitalists are two steps* away from reinventing public transportation 🤦♀️
* 1) let's have special cars on these special roads
2) maybe not everyone needs to buy their own such car, you can just rent them as you need them

“The key reason, the ECIU says, lies in how British households use smart meters and flexible electricity tariffs. While petrol prices are broadly similar in both countries, UK electric car drivers can charge their cars overnight using cheap, surplus electricity at rates as low as 7p per kWh.”

Weird.... it seems people in the UK do indeed want to buy EVs, especially if they are not made by Tesla!

Fascinating results from modelling different charging strategies (dumb, smart, #V2G) for 15 million BEVs in Germany in 2030, this research by Adeline Guéret, Carlos Gaete-Morales and @….
At 50% V2G, the system costs are lower than in the situation without EVs.

A sharp increase in standing charges makes it more difficult. An Italian model – time-of-use volumetric network tariff for EV charging – could be a good solution, provided it is also passed on to users. This provides incentives to avoid the expensive peaks (high system costs).

China’s modern influence is primarily built on a formidable economy, dramatic advancements in renewable energy, and a willingness to engage globally with the greatest crisis facing humanity: climate breakdown.
In that sense, the tanks, cannon and missiles that filed past Tiananmen Square may well prove less important in reshaping the world order than the wind turbines, solar panels and electric cars that are churning out of Chinese factories

Your EV could soon power your home—and help stabilize the entire grid.
Hyundai and Kia are rolling out Vehicle-to-Grid and Vehicle-to-Home tech across Korea, Europe, and the U.S., turning electric cars into mobile power banks. The systems let EVs store renewable energy, cut electricity costs, and provide backup power during outages or peak demand.

10 million 🔋🚗🚛🚌vehicles on Europe's roads could become an important societal resource, if fit regulation is in place.
My new infographic for Regulatory Assistance Project offers recommendations to 🇪🇺 Member States on how to create a healthy ecosystem for #V2G to scale up.
The Kia EV9 and the Hyundai IONIQ 9 are the two (enormous) cars that will be the first in the group to be used with a #V2G service. This will be launched in the Netherlands before being expanded to other markets and models (hopefully including more friendly ones).
Norway now has more models of battery-electric vehicle to choose from than 'Fossilbiler’ (fossil cars).
