No worries people, the good news is Hegseth on Defense means it is the weakest departement ever. But shall we stop with the whole "NATO Act", it is clearly gone... Also a small detail, there is no need for a contingency plan because the US already has a large base and military in Greenland. But it fits with Hegseth's absolute stupidity.

Alright, AI proponents - you win. I've long been an AI skeptic but I'm finally converted. I've found an opportunity where AI fits perfectly into my workflow, and makes me more productive:
I'm writing a list of multiple choice questions, and need a lot of wrong answers. As you can see, AI is perfect for the job!
I've now — finally — watched the Naked Gun trilogy for the first time. (I know, I know, I'm going to have to turn in my "Close Personal Friend of [Weird] Al" card.) Fits the well-established 2,1,3 pattern, and I'm into it enough that I've started on Police Squad.
I printed a MIK adapter and it fits into the rear rack of the Level 3. Aventon will not say the rack is MIK-compatible.
Maybe it's a licensing issue? I've seen them post "Our racks are not labeled for MIK compatibility. For a rack to be 100% compatible, it must have the MIK or MIK HD logo on the rack." So maybe its a wink-wink situation.
Let's just unofficially say you can (probably) use MIK stuff on the rear rack of the Level 3.

Changed up the anime list on new website version a bit.
- Before: Server yeeted 1 big HTML file with the entire list (~24kB in size).
- After: Server yeets 1 smaller HTML file (~4kB) and client will then later request the anime list itself.
So client can get working on the main HTML which now neatly fits in 1 little packet rather than being split across 2 (assuming MTU of 1500 bytes).
Starting to document the journey with the NESessity board NESRGB installation. The docs are there, but they're kinda hard to put together. I'm hoping to get the information in one place and offer more clarity on how everything fits together.

The best microcontroller thing I did last year was build this little kit that fits in a 3D printed rugged box and covers close to 90% of things I need to deal with for the products I sell & support.
I can easily throw it in my bag when I'm on the road, otherwise it sits on my desk where I can quickly grab it to test something.

Thermodynamic Analysis of Transverse Momentum Spectra in Pb-Pb Collisions at 2.76 TeV: Centrality Dependence of Temperature, Freezeout Parameters and Non-Extensitivity
We study properties of Pb-Pb collisions at 2.76 TeV in mid-rapidity, $|y|<0.5$, based on data by the ALICE Collaboration. In particular, we examine the transverse momentum ($p_T$) spectra of positively charged (identified) hadrons, $π^+$, $K^+$ and $p$, generated in various centrality intervals. We perform individual fits using the thermodynamically consistent Tsallis distribution to extract the following quantities: the non-extensitivity parameter, $q$, the effective temperature, $T…

I suspect we’re doing something similar to the tank classifier when we ascribe intelligence to AIs: there are patterns such as (for example) grammatical correctness which we •associate• with this abstract thing called “intelligence,” and we thus mis-infer the existence of everything else we associate with the notion of “intelligence” when we see (for example) correct grammar.
Or should we just call the machine intelligent because we classify it as intelligence because our brains, which we assume are intelligent, think it fits the pattern of intelligence? And now you see what the OP means about “begging the question of intelligence.”

Then, quoting Nathan Tankus: the market is not a perfectly rational distillation of all available information, but rather ❝a “conventional wisdom processor.” That is, it reflects views that seem safe to hold because many other people hold them — and the crowd only abandons those views when they become blatantly unsustainable.❞
Fits with the old adage that the market can stay irrational a lot longer than you can stay solvent.

Fascinating mix of romance history mystery, and with an ending that nicely fits the theme. Honestly, as much as I'm enjoying uncomplicated romance novels with the expectable ending at this point in my life, I'm even more excited by things like this that bend or break genre conventions, and this one does it in beautiful service to a theme.

It all fits. Suppose you’re corporate leadership. You’re laying people off / refusing to hire because you have no clue what things will look like even 1 or 2 years in the future, and you are •terrified•.
Meanwhile, your investors, your gullible trend-chasing investors, are already mentally dividing companies into “pre-AI” and “post-AI.” And not only do you have no idea how to be “post-AI,” but you have no idea whether you’ll be solvent next year. What do you tell them?!??
Obviously you tell them you’re not hiring because you’re having such incredible success with AI! Maybe even you’re going to lay off all the senior people! They’ll love that!
Now you’re not failing and flailing — you’re leading the march into the future! Yay!

Use case is a tiny pocket first aid kit. Nothing fancy, just a couple of bandaids, single-dose ibuprofen, etc. In the past I've tried a plastic clamshell case that eventually broke (and was uncomfortable), a notched vacuum sealed bag (great until you open it, but not resealable), a ziploc (too flimsy).

Krugman outlines a constellation of possible causes around a core theme: extreme uncertainty.
“What does a business do in the face of this kind of uncertainty? It tries to avoid making commitments that it may soon regret.”
Krugman tries to tie it all to Trump’s recent actions, which is dubious: the post-college job market has been crap since 2022 or 2023; Krugman’s own graph suggests it started worsening circa 2018. The larger theme of uncertainty, however, fits that timeframe.
