There are light years between (1) “I thought this code was useful, so I shared it online and slapped an OSS license on it” and (2) “We set up a foundation to fund ongoing maintenance of this critical OSS project while guaranteeing its independence.”
The “dependency, fork, or rewrite?” question looks very, very different for (1) vs (2).

I got my bike all sorted! Took it back to the shop and my friend there was like "Your chain is all twisted!" and yeah, it was.
I didn't inspect it closely after the incident the other day, but it it was literally twisted in one spot.
They threw on a new chain, checked the derailers and cassette and it all good now. I did a 3 mile ride this morning with no issues.
(And I forgot I got a new cassette in Feb 2024.)

Y'know what rubs me weird? Open Source guys who are all into competing projects. Like sure sometimes you gotta fork 'cause people's desires really are incompatible, but here we are with a system that lets us join forces for the greater good and here you are making Yet Another Thingy instead of collaborating.
I kinda fundamentally don't trust you to behave well in your project if this is the foundation.
