I would have thought that someone like Epstein didn't set up a Yahoo Mail account to coordinate illegal activities, but would have paid someone to set up his own email server.
That's a stark reminder to all the people saying "just setup your own Mastodon server" or similar things about personal digital autonomy.
I deleted my linkedin account ~15 years ago (maybe longer? it was around the time that they started sucking in peoples' gmail inbox, which was creepy)
I re-joined 6 months ago to look for a job, but so far it has just wasted my time. The jobs I see on linkedin have 3000 people applying for them, and the applications that I've actually gotten callbacks from have been ones where I randomly checked a webpage of a company I respect to see if they're hiring.
I'm extrem…

Someone should invent a way for computers to count. At the moment both GMail and GitHub have incorrect message counts in my inbox. Again.
This has happened many times. Given that computers make it possible for me to order toilet paper for delivery by 2pm and then send me hundreds of messages about toilet paper by 5pm, it seems odd to me that they can't count.
But hey, I guess it's hard to count how many things are in a list, especially when the list is empty.

After 6 weeks in a new job where it seems like everything happens over email (maybe because Teams is so poor?), I finally cracked and went full PA on my own inbox. I now have folders, categories and rules. I try not to admit to being a very competent secretary in a previous life but sometimes it comes in handy!
another pixelfed question for all the pixelfed admins:
for messages, you have inbox, sent and filtered.
I really don't understand how the "filtered" works. there are really (not spam) messages, even to some accounts I WROTE FIRST... @… - can you clarify? else I need to fill out another bug report on github
Mailed a few people: “Please provide input for subject A in this document [link] and for subject B in this document [link] in our shared SwitchDrive folder” (Yes, everyone involved has access to it!)
Resulting in my inbox exploding with reply-to-alls mixing both subjects, commenting on some of the ideas mentioned, lengthy praising of each other, etc.
What’s wrong with people?

sometimes, the misaddressed msgs for MEPs in the parltrack inbox are truly wtf. today some young citizen schleiming around and asking for:
> I would be extremely grateful if it would be possible to receive a small
autograph from you or perhaps a small gift or souvenir related to the
European Parliament. Such a gesture would mean a lot to me as someone who is eager to learn more about European institutions and democracy.
What I wanted to do:
- Check photos and videos from last weekend
What I did:
- noticed a bug on my website
- enabled logging
- wrecked the configure and thus took the website offline
- recovered from backup
- properly enabled logging
- reported the bug
- Canceled a magazine subscription
- handled all remaining emails in my inbox
...
Decided to be too tired for photos. Great...

There are a LOT of people in this world who share my name. Every so often I get an email intended for someone else because Google Mail does not have any effective process to deal with the problem

How to be a bad boss 101: Treat every scrap of knowledge like its a state secret. Even if its public information. Even if its widely shared in other parts of the business. Make your IT team scramble around and try to guess what they should be doing instead of just giving them the contract details first! If one of your team does manage to get the contract and start to develop an action plan, say "Its in my Inbox, I just haven't had time to forward it to the appropriate folks yet.&q…
Starting this week in the U.S., Instagram rolled out a new map view, which you access at the top of the direct-message inbox.
The map, confusingly, combines two forms of location sharing:
First, it includes locations you have actively tagged in recent Instagram stories or posts.
Second, the app nudges you to opt in to a new form of passive location sharing
— letting friends see wherever you last opened the app,
even just to scroll through it.

It is good IT Security practice to separate data from code. For example, an SQL Injection attack is to get the target to treat data (entered into a form) as code, that is break that barrier.
Now take an "AI agent" doing a task for you like: "Download that podcast that Frank emailed me about". It will read untrusted data (e-mails in my inbox), access sensitive data (e-mails from my friends) get more stuff from the web (the podcast episode), etc.
And all that in an environment where there 1/2
