Capping off this week of #fungifriday (get it? capping? mushrooms?) these velvety question marks. I have no idea what they are. They appeared practically overnight in this peculiar pattern. The caps are soft to the touch, despite the pattern.

Been playing Transiruby and the exploration poetics are top-notch, like rivalling Super Metroid good, which is a distinct rarity among metroidvanias.
Something the original Super Metroid had was required secrets and the expectation that you'd actually read the map as a gameplay skill. Many many metroidvanias don't have that, including favorites like Ori, but it's one of the things that makes Hollow Knight stand out. Transiruby sadly doesn't have maps-as-rewards, but it does have moments where consulting the map is expected (water cog is a big one since it's in the middle of an already-explored area by the time you can access it). The game also requires revisits with the coin door mechanic, but marks the things you need on the map and structures revisits really nicely with a variety of shortcuts that open up as you gain abilities.
I was kinda sad when the first movement power was double jump (le sigh) but the second movement power is really neat and original, so I'm happy again.
Besides the big things, there are a lot of little moments where there's ludonarrative harmony between the choice structures and the area themes/plot points.
Haven't finished it yet, but so far it's headed into my top tier of metroidvanias, or very close, even despite fairly simple combat and easy (if fun) bosses.

I just saw an all-caps instruction file that someone uses to 'instruct' an LLM to help with coding, and it's just "don't hallucinate", "check your work", "don't say you did something when you didn't" with multiple exclamation marks.
So, basically the whole 'vibe coding,' or having "AI" "help" with coding just devolves into shouting at your computer.
Which reminded me of something, and then it hit me!

Trash panda update: they're not gone but seem to be starting to learn we don't like them. The super soaker is the weapon of choice - they hate it but it doesn't do any permanent damage.
I had one pop out in broad daylight earlier and pummeled it with the super soaker until it climbed up a tree out of range.
Another one showed up after dark and froze when I walked out the back door, maybe it thought I couldn't see it?
It thought wrong.

Stats Sunday!
Today marks 100 days that I’ve met my step goals in a row.
Yesterday, I broke 2 million steps for 2025. That’s about 1500km (~930 miles). At this rate, I’ll easily pass 4 million steps for the year (last year: 3.2 million).
I’ve also made my step count 153/165 days so far.

Hyperfixiation Joy, Stay if You Love It, Scroll if You Don’t!
Next year marks a decade since I first heard Loin d’ici by Zoë Straub. Ten years of the same song looping in my mind, ten years of clinging to every word, every note, as if it’s the only thing keeping me afloat. I remember May 14, 2016, like it’s a scar, the day my hyperfixation began. Time keeps slipping past me, but the song stays, haunting and comforting at once, as if Zoë herself is quietly following me through the endle…

Managed to repair my digital piano. Two of the c's stopped working. Turns out the fix was easy: I used some 9B pencil to rub the connectors on the piano, as they apparently work with graphite. There was a silicone bit I could take off to get to the connector.
Opening the piano up was by far the hardest part of this repair.

The first MS-A2 node is up and it only took the entire day. After fixing a ton of networking issues across the homelab I've got all the VMs running on the new node. The old nodes have been decomissioned which kinda marks a milestone. Still need to get the other two new nodes into the cluster, but should be fairly straightforward and can wait until tomorrow.

Let’s be clear:
The people saying “Alligator Auschwitz” are not blowing things out of proportion. They are not putting words in MAGA’s mouth. This is a clear and explicit endorsement of the mass murder of an entire identity group in the US.

The UK government’s intention to proscribe Palestine Action under the Terrorism Act 2000 marks a significant escalation in the treatment of civil disobedience. It elevates a group known for throwing red paint at buildings and military aircraft into the same legal category as al-Qaida and Islamic State. If there’s a serious threat from these activists, we’ve yet to see it – just a ministerial statement discussing civil disobedience in the language of counterinsurgency.

Trump’s latest letter imposing a 50 percent tariff on Brazil, marks a new departure,
and I think it’s both evil and megalomaniacal.
Trump barely even pretends that there’s an economic justification for this action.
This is all about punishing Brazil for putting Jair Bolsonaro on trial.
Bolsonaro, is Brazil’s previous president, who lost the last election — but tried to stay in power through a coup overturning that election.
Of course that sounds familiar.
