This analysis 100% encapsulates my sentiment about the #StarWars Sequel trilogy with one key difference:
I really never preferred 'The Last Jedi' over 'The Rise of Skywalker'. Yes, choosing between two evils... but TLJ committed the unforgivable sin of not just being BAD but also being perpetually IRRITATING.

Good Morning #Canada
December 15th, 1964, the Canadian House of Commons votes 163 to 78 to approve the red Maple Leaf flag. The vote put an end to years of conflict over the Liberals proposing a new flag, and gave Canada a new symbol for its upcoming 100th birthday celebration. In 1960, Lester B. Pearson, then Leader of the Opposition, declared that he was determined to solve what he called “the flag problem.” To Pearson, this issue was critical to defining Canada as a unified, independent country. As the newly elected Prime Minister in 1963, Pearson promised to resolve the question of a new national flag in time for Canada’s centennial celebrations in 1967. Traditionalists fought for their beloved Union Jack while a younger generation wanted a new modern design to represent Canada. Thousands of designs, some truly ugly, were considered and rejected, including Pearson's preferred flag. I think we did OK in the end.

An international group is organizing an observing campaign through the Citizen Science Working Group of the #LUMIO mission: LUMIO is an ESA space mission to observe lunar #impact flashes (LIFs) from space, on the lunar far side (#Geminid meteoroid stream, 13-15 Dec 2025. During the maximum of the stream, the number of visible impact flashes will be higher than during non-shower times, therefore there is a good chance of detecting at least some impact flashes.
Observations can be made using moderately-sized telescopes and a video camera. On the website lif.mi.imati.cnr.it/home_page. there are now a recording of a thorough talk about the project and its slides at lif.mi.imati.cnr.it/open_item_ and slides about the preferred analysis software ALFI at lif.mi.imati.cnr.it/open_item_ -if you want to join in the LGC please sign on by 21 November.

Good Morning #Canada
Happy National Homemade Bread Day for all those with enough dough to celebrate. There's no data on how many of us make their own bread at home, but there are 1,321 bakery product manufacturing establishments and more than 1,406 retail bakeries in Canada. Canada annually ranks in the top 10 worldwide in wheat production, 6th or 7th, depending on the year, but we don't eat a lot of bread. #StatsCan says we consume approximately 30 kg per person yearly, which doesn't put us in the top 30 internationally - Turkey's citizens eat 6 times as much as us. We spend about 10% of our grocery bill on baked goods, and that has increased almost 30% over the past 5 years. Canada exports $5.2B in baked goods annually with $5B of that going to the U.S. market.
#CanadaIsAwesome #Sandwich
My favourite type of bread: Please boost for scientific significance.
Plain White (I leave my socks on too)
Bagels (Montreal preferred)
Sourdough (nothing to do with my personality)
French - loaf or baguette (I also support Bilingualism)
Italian - loaf, focaccia, calabrese (I'm also a pasta lover)

Content warning: Strange New Worlds S3

Watched season three of Strange New Worlds and it was pretty great.
The Enemy Mine episode with the pilot and the Gorn stranded by the Metrons was a nice bit of retcon.
Chronologically the first holodeck episode ever (Or did Enterprise do one? I forget), and the safeties fail and nearly kill everyone aboard the ship. Tech eh? The the humans must pursue it even if it kills them. I'm not all that keen on holodeck episodes. It always has this false sense of danger where they have some fake reason to have danger so it's not all a game.
Everyone's-a-vulcan episode was stupid and funny. Star Fleet is so casual with the humanity of it's soldiers.
Nurse Chapel is still amazing even though her hair is longer and, unusually, I preferred it short.
Knowing the future in a prequel makes things quite poignant. Kirk and Spock's first handshake. Their first mindmeld. Oh, the adventures they shall have. Playing with that by making Pike know his own future too is nice meta level scripting game.

Content warning: Loss and grief

I keep thinking that I should text a friend of mine, tell him how much I've been writing, tell him I mentioned him in something I wrote. Then I remember he died like 4 years ago.
Edit:
It must have been more like 6 or something now that I'm thinking about it. It was part of the way through the first Trump administration. He would have really appreciated the way Trump is unraveling now. One of the last times we talked he was like... "You know man, You used to play 'Baby, I'm an anarchist' and I'd think... ' don't want to throw a brick through a Starbucks window. I kinda like their coffee sometimes.' But the way things have been going lately, I'm kind of looking around and thinking you might be right. Fuck Starbucks. Where's that brick?"
At least I won the SRV vs the Hendrix version of Voodoo Chile debate. Hendrix is just better.
We used to talk about music, especially punk (and rockabilly, and ska, and 2 tone), and poetry, and beer. He liked hop stupid, but I always thought it didn't have the body to match the hops and I always preferred Racer 5. Of course, this time of year we'd be shifting in to red and stout season, and I'd be excited for Lagunitas Russian Imperial and this year's Bourbon County Stout batch.
He was really big in to Star Wars. He missed all of Andor, which is probably the best thing to have come out since the original 3. But I guess he also missed the new trilogy, so maybe it balances out.
He would have really liked all the good music I've run across in the last few years. He had a music blog for a bit.
Yeah... I don't know why it's hitting me so hard now, other than maybe I never had time to really process it before.
