Just to clarify: this is not a complete list of things I want for the world. This is not even a complete political platform. It’s just a single simple, clear, core message that I suspect would work much better in elections than that fash-lite mush all the Newsomesque political consultants are oozing out of their pores right now.

With the advent of ELIZA, Joseph Weizenbaum's first psychotherapist chatbot, NLP took another major step with pattern-based substitution algorithms based on simple regular expressions.

Someday, I want to erase everything and vanish offline, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.
I’m sick of being trapped in this endless cycle of digital puppetry and mental sludge, where every click feeds some shallow algorithm designed to keep you hooked and dumbed down, turning people into another batch of screen-zombies chasing cheap hits and empty dopamine hits.
I want out of this rat race of constant noise and manufactured crises, where reality is warped into a carnival…

The image is a four-panel meme. The top left panel features a simple black and white drawing of a smiling face with a bald head and a wide grin. The top right panel shows a photograph of a red barn with a gray roof, surrounded by green grass and trees, under a cloudy sky.

The bottom left panel contains a black and white sketch of a head with a textured, wrinkled surface and large, dark eye sockets. The bottom right panel displays a digital image of Earth from space, with a network of blue line…

She’s right, you know.
We don’t need a general solution for how we accommodate trans kids in sports. It can be handled on a case by case basis. It’s being hypothesized into absurd scale to trigger reaction. There’s no “catastrophe” possible. There are a few dozen specific cases and they are different enough that they should be handled independently.
The details in real cases always seem to argue in favor of the trans kid’s choice.

Today I had a 1h meeting followed by 2h of code reading and DB forensics which resulted in a rather simple SQL query that, when run daily via cron, should remove the need for a manual step that an operator had to do regularily (and maybe did not do properly, but instread wasted an hour on dumb clicking instead).

So some Democratic politicians actually got the memo, but clearly others are flailing. To help them out, I’d like to offer my sage political wisdom. Try the following message:
1. Kick Trump out.
2. Tax the living shit out of billionaires.
3. Use the money to get folks back on their feet and clean up this mess.
Just that. Simple and direct, no fussing around. Give that a try and see how it lands. Float a trial balloon in some minor swing district election and see what happens.

Quick tip for those with young kids who want them to learn how to use a watch with an analogue (dial) style interface.
While the likes of Flik Flak make nice kids watches, they are a little on the pricy side.
Potentially better IMHO however are these kids field/pilot style watches from AliExpress. They cost basically nothing [<$5🇺🇸] and the hour hand points to an inner ring of numbered hours, while the minute hand points to an outer ring of numbered minutes. So simple!

Small watch with black dial and white numberals. The inner ring of numberals are hours. The outer ring is minutes. It has a nato(ish) style strap and is held by an adult hand. The hand is wearing a black ring and in the background you can see some greenery from plants.

Ok, more C fun today. I'm getting -fsanitize=undefined working and am hitting the wall when trying to get the language to support arithmetic right shift operations. There doesn't appear to be a simple way to get the compiler to emit this instruction except by exercising implementation-defined behavior of the right-shift operator on signed integer types.
I ask again what kind of systems language is C supposed to be if it can't express a universal operation of this nature?…

Does one side of the face droop?

Arms: Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?

Speech: Ask the person to repeat a simple sentence. Are the words slurred? Does he or she fail to repeat the sentence correctly?

Calamus 22 Passing stranger!
An absolutely smoldering poem of unfulfilled desire from a casual encounter. It is delicious for its clear and direct explication of a very complicated emotion. The hottest line:
You give me the pleasure of your eyes, face, flesh, as we pass
The poem manages to capture three things in just ten lines.
Whitman is generously pan-gender but the text still feels queer-coded to me. Specifically in how the desire is kept secret: "I am not to speak to you... I am to wait". Combined with the street-cruising scenario (a theme in previous poems) and I can definitely relate to my gay experience.

Last night I dreamed that the great computer scientist, Niklaus Wirth, had died by suicide because he was convinced his intellect was failing, because a simple financial calculation was failing, because he'd caught an exception and just returned zero instead of handling it, because he'd written sketch code and meant to come back and deal with it later but had not done so.
Which is almost certainly all arrant nonsense, but what a BIZARRE thing to dream about.
