When I read it, I immediately thought of “failed adoption.” That’s the term hopeful adopters use when they’ve “matched” w/ a “birthmother” while she’s pregnant, & she then changes her mind about relinquishing. The quadratic linking degree
By using motivic homotopy theory, we introduce a counterpart in algebraic geometry to oriented links and their linking numbers. After constructing the (ambient) quadratic linking degree -- our analogue of the linking number which takes values in the Witt group of the ground field -- and exploring some of its properties, we give a method to explicitly compute it. We consider a model that accounts for the smallness of neutrino masses through the linear seesaw mechanism and employs a $Δ(27)$ family symmetry to address the flavour problem.
