That’s not how people work – we don’t keep track of the provenance of each bit of information that gets consolidated into our knowledge. I’ve already done my complaining about the theoretical harms of AI-generated papers in the literature, but this one felt personal. This is my time that’s been wasted now, because I can’t cite this paper as a source. I have to go find some other literature that describes the science I was trying to explain, and it has to be something that I (a person with general expertise but not deep subject knowledge) and a similar audience can understand without having to work too hard.
