I have a lot of devices (~15) on my home wifi network. Around me are also 10-15 neighboring wifi networks as well as nearly 30 bluetooth devices of various origins.
I find it incredibly funny that using wireless bluetooth headphones throws me back to the vinyl record days where you hear constant popping, cracking and skipping.
All this fancy technology just to come full circle. 😄
Luckily, my particular pair came with an optional wire. 🎧
Let's get the basics right for my laptop config:
- encryption during install, not jumping through hoops in partitioning
- wifi easily selected during install
- preferably non-systemd
- software not too outdated
Exactly where FreeBSD could shine, were it not for an unsupported wifi adapter 🤔

Normally, I'd be a bit more paranoid with my 9950X, but looking at the build, the mounting of the Noctua NH-U9S, and the mainboard involved makes this more worry significantly less.
Issues with the GMP build:
1. The thermal paste (likely NT-H1 or NT-H2, good paste) is wedge shaped in application and distribution. This looks like uneven pressure across the contact patch and is Not A Good Thing(tm).

New version of Android "Android 16 QPR1" is now out, that's supposed to be a minor quarterly release. No idea if they fixed all the bugs I've been finding. But they've changed the UI around. Again. For instance the icons showing WiFi and cellular signal strength have changed.
Maybe it's better, maybe it's worse, but I grow weary of these changes. Some images here.

The portable air conditioner unit we have in the bedroom is reasonably advanced: it has WiFi connectivity, a remote control, and the ability to switch between heating and cooling. It's annoying, though, that you can only set a sleep timer on the unit itself, which isn't great when you're all nice and comfy in bed. It also takes several button presses when you're there. Fixed thanks to #HomeAssistant, meaning it can be set through the app or voice 😄
Well, turns out that my laptop is even less portable than I thought. On top of dead battery, I've just discovered that the wifi card goes nuts when I move the laptop a little, which in the best case results in kernel panic, and in the worst in plain old hardware hang.

@kotrckap@mastodon.social Ah, then an xfce is certainly possible as well. Or try freeBSD with niri, if you'd like to try that out. My guess is the wifi adapter in that laptop is already supported, so you could basically try anything on it.
