"which emojis are used the least often?" - Great question, and we rarely find data on this! But luckily, we studied this at least for two corpora with German users (and admittedly only for face emojis). So: Many object or symbol emojis (from the "tail end" of the emoji list) are very, very rarely used. Overall, faces and hearts are the most frequent. Among the face emojis, we compiled the full list of usages from a huge Twitter corpus (semi-public communication, 2014-2022) and a much small WhatsApp chat corpus (private or group communication). You can find the frequencies in this table linked below (and sort by frequency by clicking on the column). The least frequent face emoji in the large corpus was the "frowning face with open mouth" 😦, which most people have never seen before. Abstract: Many existing time-series Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (TS-InSAR) software tools have limitations, including restricted geographic applicability, commercial licensing, and incomplete end-to-end processing support. Although GMTSAR avoids some of these constraints, it still requires substantial manual intervention and C-shell commands, lacks a user-friendly graphical interface, and omits important steps such as interferogram network pruning and anchoring of unwrapped interferograms. This paper introduces DefoEye (v1), an open-source Python-based software package that wraps GMTSAR and provides a unified, user-friendly TS-InSAR workflow for Sentinel-1 data. DefoEye supports parallel job execution, interferogram network pruning, and multiple anchoring options. Its performance was evaluated from 2020 to 2024 in four regions with different geological settings, deformation mechanisms, and atmospheric and climatic conditions. In Bologna, Italy; Gotland, Sweden; and Houston, USA, DefoEye results were compared with observations from 10 GNSS stations and showed strong agreement, with RMSE values of 4.3-11.9 mm and Pearson correlation coefficients of 0.63-0.95. In Karaj, Iran, where GNSS observations were unavailable, DefoEye was compared with other widely used processing tools and achieved similarly close agreement, with an RMSE of 4.8 mm/yr and a Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.98. These results demonstrate that DefoEye provides reliable TS-InSAR products for geological, hydrological, and environmental applications.

Abstract: National planning counts population, human capital, and artificial-intelligence preparedness in separate ledgers. Demographic accounting has advanced from headcount to skills-adjusted stocks and still debates how much age structure retains once skills are modeled, yet no existing unit carries the conditions under which preparedness becomes productive capacity. This study introduces the Effective Cognitive Population (ECP), a decomposable unit that weights population by capability and by the conditions under which capability is deployed, anchored to the World Bank Human Capital Index Plus (HCI ) and the non-overlapping dimensions of the IMF AI Preparedness Index. The architecture is portable in principle; the case tested here is artificial intelligence, which has a published preparedness index. For 144 countries, HCI becomes a productivity level, AI opportunity uses digital infrastructure and innovation integration, conversion governance uses regulation and ethics, and the benchmark is ECP = N H(1 AC). Against 2024 total output on identical population bases, ECP raises criterion R-squared from 0.849 for the HCI -adjusted stock to 0.882 and lowers leave-one-country-out RMSE from 0.723 to 0.641, with the working-age comparison identical and bootstrap intervals excluding zero. Eighty-nine of 144 countries move at least ten rank positions from headcount, mostly through the human-capital adjustment itself. Results are stable across denominators, vintages, aggregation forms, and a 27-rule multiverse. The direct A by C interaction is not statistically supported, so the conjunction is a planning rule rather than causal complementarity. ECP is a diagnostic ledger whose scope excludes forecasts of population decline and estimates of AI's causal productivity effect.

The progression of the #poolpond #backyardproject over the past 2 years. I started it on Labour Day of 2024.
The first picture is August 3, 2024 as the last true “before times” picture. We started by demolishing the old shed… but the pond work itself didn’t start until Labour Day that year!
We’re getting there! It is almost starting to look like a backyard again :)
A few important things remain from the original yard. The fence, which was mostly just renewed and heightened for bylaw, not changed. The hazelnut tree, which has dealt wi5 all the earthly disturbances surprisingly well. It is full of nuts again this year. The rhubarb, which is impossible to kill if we wanted to and is as big as ever, and the chicken coop and run, which has been moved around but will find a spot eventually.
