As I said a few weeks ago: #Apple doesn’t have a problems with #ads as long as they are in charge. For users it‘s just more #enshittification.

OK this may be my first encounter with the enshittification of OneDrive - I know it only from the online cloud storage that you have to actually acitively save stuff too.
Appears that microsoft has it as default storgae so everything saved on hard drive of laptop is also backed up to their cloud.
And this onedrive storage is "full" after we downloaded full google photos* backup yesterday. So I can't do anything here even though the laptop itslef has a goood 150 Gb free on the hard drive.

It’s obvious that this tool was made by people who care about data and care about humans. It’s not even that it’s •perfect•; it’s just that it’s •thoughtful•.
That kind of human-to-human feeling of “we did our best because we care about the strangers who use this tool” just seems almost like an act of radical defiance in this Era of Enshittification. I appreciate it so much.

I remember a friend who worked at a company that made a popular browser, and complained that I didn't have any "skin in the game" when I constantly complained about the browser the company was building.

Phew finally managed to track down a copy of “Enshittification” by @…
Was weirdly hard to find it in NYC today! I tried multiple bookstores and had to wonder around multiple floors of the Union Sq. Barnes and Noble to find a sole copy tucked away on a sociology shelf.
Not sure if I’m just too early, since I was looking around 1 pm on the day the book officially released, or if the bookstores are sleeping on it.
In either case - I have it and I’m delighted to be reading it!!

It's Interesting today that the popularization of @…'s concept of "enshittification" is leading us to really think hard about how various methods of vendor lock-in enable corporations to abuse users. We see how first there's lock-in then quickly abuse follows, and recognize that the only way out of this trap is to build systems where users can leave at will.
But it's interesting that in this time of rising fascism no one is making the connection to fascism, as both increased lock in and enshittification of government. And no one is making the connection between the need to make systems optional to avoid enshittification, and libertarian socialist arguments against the systemic lock-in (and following abuse) of capitalism and the state.

Doing #Gentoo these days feels like being a small cell of unpaid volunteers opposing the enshittification of software. On one side, we're put up against a horde of full-time corporate developers. On the other, against young ambitious volunteers with lots of free time. And both can rapidly spew tons of mediocre code, and doing things wrong is so much easier than doing things right.
(Just to be clear, I'm not saying every corporation or every youngster does things wrong — there are people who care on the other side too.)
