everybody's an "expert" on the fediverse, mastodon, blu*sky and thr*ads including myself :-) Again 90% of "experts" including myself are wrong. In my bubble :-) pixelfed, mastodon, peertube and other ActivityPub apps are growing. Castopod, an AP app for podcasting, seems cool too. I follow ~100 people on my Pixelfed account and I'm baffled at how few people use stories.
On that-other-cursed-platform, people often post stories unwillingly, because other people no longer check regular post feeds. I kinda get it, because ads are less frequent stories are still sorted in reverse chronological order. And that vicious circle keeps itself in the constant momentum.
Then again, on Pixelfed people seem to _actually look_ at their timelines.

But it also must be said, on a simple level, having the world's largest social media company connect to the Fediverse does validate everything that every ActivityPub, Mastodon, Pixelfed, Peertube, _________ insert-fedi-platform-here, developer and user has worked for.

I do not understand the dichotomy in the fediverse regarding federation. This is a space where literally ANYONE can grab a copy of Mastodon (or Pixelfed or dozens of other ActivityPub compatible servers) and start following and interacting with others. But, GOD FORBID a company they don't approve of comes and tries to federate or someone builds a bridge that allows federation with another technology. That's evil and must be instantly blocked.

After Firefish imploded a few months ago, my interest in continuing my interest in my single-user server project died.
Tonight I decided to replace it with a Pixelfed server. It went about as smoothly as you can imagine. The only issue is the server gives 500 errors after making changes to the .env file and running php artisan config:cache to rebuild the cache—the cause is beyond me.
Overall, a fun Sunday project.

Web 2.0 survivor, Flipboard, recently decided integration was the best path forward.
It ditched Twitter and integrated with Mastodon while rebuilding its back end to join the fediverse
— the decentralized social web.
The social magazine app also became the first app to support Bluesky, Mastodon, and Pixelfed (a decentralized Instagram alternative) last May, allowing users to track updates across these social networks, as well as YouTube, all in one place.

Well, I have deleted the Threads app. They don't seem interested in integrating in good faith, unfortunately. Therefore I don't see any point in advocating for them further.

It's completely asinine that an instance I've defederated from that doesn't use "authorized fetch" (proprietary mastodon implementation) can see my posts and interact with them as if I can see them.
I'm basically giving promotions to asshats in my replies from gross instances because blocks don't work like they should...
This is why I don't see Threads federating with these platforms for very long. Every Fedi software that doesn't adopt Authorized Fetch, will be breaking their terms. There IS a few proposals on how AP could officially implement a similar feature, but as of right now, it's the wild west here.
