Just like... imagine for a second that you're a former billionaire and every day you have to sit through someone telling you a long story about all the suffering you caused them, or their family, or their community, in order to get food.
Like, as a billionaire, you don't even have the first clue how to take care of yourself so you are *completely* dependent on other people to do *everything* for you... and the only people who will do anything for you are all the people you hurt, in exchange for you sitting and listening to *all of it.*
Yeah, fuck the guillotine. I want justice.

…everyone there was white. •Everyone•. This particular park would usually be more white than not, but…this was weird.
There’s officially a city prohibition on ICE setting foot in city parks, but who knows what that’s worth? Those bastards will do anything if they think they can get away with it. And they’ll grab people right off the streets if they’re falling behind quota for the day. Who’d risk that?
ICE had apparently succeeded turning the park into all-white world they dreamed of. It was…creepy.

Happy 4th anniversary of Van Ness BRT opening!
Who else was there with me? Remember all the crowds that rode the official first bus on April 1, 2022?

Huge crowd of people packed on the sidewalk and street in front of the War Memorial Opera House, a Roman style building in San Francisco, on a clear day. Everyone is facing away from the camera.
A person with glasses and long hair, wearing an N95 mask and a black baseball cap featuring line art of San Francisco, looks at the camera inside a crowded bus.
A smallish crowd is on the sidewalk of a highway with a tree-planted median, and in the street are two Muni buses with Muni's red and gray livery, their headsigns reading, "BRT, Van Ness Bus Rapid Transit."
A Muni bus with its headsign reading "49 Van Ness/Mission, City College" stops at a bus stop in one of two center-running bus lanes painted red.

Theodor Seuss Geisel, aka Dr. Seuss, was born today (March 2) in 1904. Growing up in the 80s, Seuss books were huge for me. I'm still a massive fan, and have a decent amount of Seuss collectibles 😂
My wife asked the other day what my favorites of his are, and I'd never thought about it. I love all of em from Cats to Fish, but for me, it's these two. I read these CONSTANTLY as a kid.

So I grew up somewhere never needing an ID for anything, other than a driving license when I was very occasionally driving a car. I wasn’t carrying an ID every day until I was in my 30s.
It’s a relatively new thing that travel, buying certain things, alcohol consumption etc requires a photo ID.
All of this surveillance and privacy-invasive shit (make people carry around the address where they live, wtf?) has been pressed into existence to “protect the children” and in the name of “fighting criminals”.
It’s all bullshit and we should end requiring it.

Same goes unless the context your encrypted messenger is running in is secure. Signal can encrypt your messages all day long but you’re still screwed if the custom keyboard app you installed on your phone is sending them off to someone else before they even reach Signal.

Sometimes I feel that I could have my introduction much better. So I'll leave another piece here, and maybe one day I'll be able to find it again and use somewhere…
I'm a radical. I believe that every human has a right to dignity in life. Yes, even these people who allegedly "are too lazy to work".
I believe that everyone deserves safety, that nobody should be cold or starve, that everybody should be able to use a toilet or wash themselves, have access to healthcare and public transportation.
I think that restricting access to drinking water and toilets is a crime against humanity. The latter is also plain stupid, because it only leads to people using other places as toilets.
I'm so tired of the postsoviet labor cult (a kind of Polish thing). Seeing labor as a value in itself. Everyone must work, and it doesn't matter whether the work is actually beneficial, or outright harmful.
And last of all, I can't tolerate smokers. There is no excuse to harm yourself and everyone around you, just to satisfy your stupid addiction. And I'm also talking of all the random people who breathe all the toxins because smokers think they deserve to smoke everywhere, all the time.

Good Morning #Canada
Today we all finally come to our senses and bow down to the knowledge of prognosticating rodents. Yes, it's #GroundHogDay2026. Beyond the obvious impact of totally rearranging your next 6 weeks based on the prediction of some small mammal, or lobster, there is the economic impact. Wharton, Ontario, a town of 1,900 seemingly sensible Canadians will generate enough tourism dollars to keep Willie in the lifestyle to which he is accustomed.
Some rodent in Pennsylvania has already predicted 6 more weeks of winter, but let's face facts, the U.S. is not really trustworthy these days. Lucy the Lobster in Nova Scotia and Fred La Marmotte in Quebec are both reporting an early spring. The link below provides an update from others across Canada.
Why don't we have a prognosticating beaver?

Trump is a boor and a warring maniac bombing a country "back to the stone ages" because why not when you're just trying to keep up with your mentors in Israel and Russia.
But it's not Saturday so I guess no protests in the USA... maybe next month. Because Midterms.
——
"Trump, on Wednesday, commented that Macron's wife Brigitte "treats him extremely badly”.”
"Macron said these comments were inelegant and unworthy and did not merit a response.”
"On strategic matters, the French president said the Trump administration was constantly giving out contrary signals.”
"There’s too much talk" he said, adding "it’s going off in every direction. But we all need stability, calm, a return to peace. It’s not a show."
"If you want to be serious, you can’t say each day the opposite of what you said the day before."

While working through another last rites slew, I was thinking that back in the day there were a number of developers who believed they should add a lot of packages to #Gentoo, in the name of giving users a choice. Like, they were projects whose sole purpose of existence seemed to be to find every piece of software that roughly fit a specific topic, get it to build and package it for Gentoo.
Of course, the long-term effect of that is that there's a lot of unmaintained, often broken packages. "The choice" doesn't really work. Sure, users have a lot of packages to choose from — but they have to actually figure out which of these packages are actually useful (if any).
A few years ago attempting to remove packages also faced some verbal opposition. You shouldn't remove unmaintained or outdated packages, because they still work. You shouldn't remove packages that sometimes fail to build, because some flag combinations still work. You shouldn't remove packages that don't build at all, because the user can visit Forums and find some workaround to make them build 🤦. Or they'll have an ebuild handy to start working on it. And anyway, you shouldn't be removing stuff at all, but fixing it instead.
Sometimes the arguments were straight dishonest too: people literally said we need more packages to lure new users in. Like, it didn't matter to them that the packages didn't really work and that the people trying to use them will get a nasty surprise. They wanted people to say "hey, Gentoo has this software we need, let's start using Gentoo".

It is such a mystery, why do American presidents start patriotic wars far from home when they are unpopular and the mid-terms are coming up and there's incriminating evidence against them in the news every day. 🧐 🤔
Nothing like this has ever happened before.
Some say he's doing what he promised and ending the forever wars!... By winning them!
Israel thinks that having the country next door fall to chaos and civil war makes them less of a threat. I don't think that's right, but I think that's what motivates them. Those in charge of it's military want that Greater Israel with bigger borders and smaller neighbours.
Trump thinks he can go down in history as the saviour of the world and if he just chops off the head of the regime the people will rise up and be a liberal democracy. I don't think that's right either. He thinks similarly about Venusualia.
The US administration aim to take control of the global oil supply for private American and multinational owned corporations. Their power is rooted in control of the literal power supply. Oil. Distributed clean energy is a threat to their power. They want to stop all this solar windmill crap and go back to good old fashioned tax and control of centralized oil distribution hubs.
Starmer just thinks he has no choice and he has to do what America says and can't risk the Telegraph and the Mail calling him antisemitic. He falsely accused thousands of not-terrorists of terrorism and is putting them through courts as terrorists for the same reason.

> As a restaurant owner – I’m astounded at the rate of progress since microwaves were released a few short years ago. Today’s microwave can cook a frozen burrito. Tomorrow’s microwave will be able to cook an entire Thanksgiving Dinner. Ten years from now a microwave may even be able to run the country.

Yesterday was complete shit. I was in pain nearly all day and afternoon. Got a little relief in the afternoon (thanks Illinois gummy!) and then had insomnia & more pain at bedtime. Finally fell asleep then awoke and ran to the bathroom at 4:20am because I thought I was going to sick. Ugh… had some food, took my morning meds, and back to bed.

Well, today was the day I'd prepared to do my monthly run to the local recycling centre, twelve miles away, on the big cargo bike. The bike is all loaded up and ready to go. But the weather forecast, which last night was saying grey but dry, is now suggesting snow all day; so I think I may change my plans.
Bother.

My request from Minneapolis:
There are lots of different things you can do on this day of protest against fascism. Lots of good things. They all count. Giant crowds matter. Ubiquity matters. Letting even one other person know they’re not alone matters. Just do something. Show up somewhere. Whatever you do, make it greater than zero.

This becomes especially interesting when you understand the history of the church as a quasi-revolutionary organization. One could describe early church history as a mostly-successful attempt to overthrow the Roman empire. I say mostly successful because, in the end, the Roman state mutated the church for it's own ends and basically pulled a Lenin.
The early church was a religion of women and slaves that set up alternative institutions. See, the Roman economic system basically ran through the temples. Temples were basically the banks of their day (thus money changers in the temples and all that). So when the church set up their own institutions, they were actually attacking the economic system of the Roman empire. *That* is why the empire tried to destroy them. The Romans didn't really care about the gods. They would just mutate their beliefs to pull other pagans in. No, it wasn't about the gods. The Christian were fucking with the money.
The whole church as an institution was about dual power, and Paul (one of the early founders of the church) was central to organizing this into a political machine that could actually threaten the dominant order. One could argue that he saw the potential of the church, and used it to solidify his own power.
It all basically worked, right up until Constantine figured out how to flip the whole thing against the most radical elements. He had his people collect up different books of the Bible and modify them in such a way that it favored Rome. The trick here was to highlight the existing antisemitic threads of early church, and destroy the anti-Roman ones. Anti-authoritarian sects were killed as heretics, and centralized sects became aligned under the church.
This strategy of controlling internal dissent probably feels quite familiar. It's basically how the US works.
But this whole time, during the whole lead up to this, Christianity was illegal and it was continuing to grow as a system of dual power. When Romanism merged with Christianity, it created the most authoritarian institution in human history that brutally destroyed all opposition. Even still, several hundred years later it's power broke.
Today Liberalism has separated banking and the church, and has created the illusion of separation of church and state. But the same dual power strategy that allowed the first church to gain enough power to merge with the Roman power structure have now allowed Christian Nationalism to fully merge with Americanism into the Christian Fascism we see today...

A lot of their strategies are like spammers and phishers: they’re kind of stupid, they’re kind of lazy, but they just spend all day trying — and they only have to catch somebody off guard once. And so while they lazy it up, we have to remain in a state of ceaseless vigilance…because as we all know from phishing scams, everybody slips up eventually.

I think often of a story my composer friend Todd Harper told of the days when he taught 4th grade.
He brought in a piece music every day to play for the kids — widely varied in style, origin, and era, almost always something unfamiliar to them.
One day he brought in an Erik Satie march that they all •hated•. It’s a sort of wildly repetitive and maddening, bores its way into your brain, and the kids flipped out.
So he started playing it again every day.

You know the classic story of the foolish employer who paid software developers per bug fixed? If you haven’t, you can guess the outcome: program called off when one developer “fixed“ hundreds of bugs in a single day (that they’d intentionally introduced).
This is just like that, except not like it at all: the “fake bugs” — ICE agents abducting random people to make a buck — are the •intended• effect.
