🤔 Interestingly enough I've talked a lot about Niri today, even adjusted the config, but ended up spending time in Project Banana, the immutable KDE Linux (by KDE, based on Arch). And Calculate Linux, a Russian Gentoo spin.
Such is the life of the restless.
What I have also come to appreciate about my lean Debian stable is that there are no updates every day (or even several times a day) that require a reboot. As is the case with Fedora or Arch. I also find this very pleasant because it doesn't constantly interrupt my work. Yes, comfort comes with age.

To all my fellow Arch users, I was once again reminded that putting anything in `/etc/environment` is a bad idea. Don't do it.
I put `GTK_USE_PORTAL=1` in there, because I always want native file dialogs, right? Well, turns out this breaks secret service integration (KDE Wallet/GNOME Keyring) in Fractal. So, back to setting it on a per-app basis.

Dude! A docking station under 50 euros allows me to use 3 external monitors in addition to the laptop. And all has worked out of the box, it has been just plug&play.
I'm amazed, but I must confess that I was expecting to have to fiddle around in Arch to get it.

But, what makes me particularly proud and happy - with all the thinking over the last few days about what to do with Linux, returning to Fedora was never an issue! In the end, it was a decision between Debian and Arch, two distributions that couldn't be more different. But I opted for stability over up-to-dateness. Better safe than sorry.

Swapped the nVidia RTX 4070Ti with a nice, regular-sized AMD Radeon 9070 XT. Everything is running perfectly though I did have to reinstall Linux because I couldn't undo the futzing I did to clear up a few issues with Wayland with the 4070Ti. Not a huge deal, but still annoying. However, everything is fine and now just enjoying some gaming.

I don't use linux solely because of privacy. The biggest reason is because I want an OS that works. I need something that doesn't hinder my work. #linux #arch #archlinux
Used a Steamdeck, without having a Steamdeck 😜
Spend some time today updating and running BlendOS, an immutable Arch distro.
You start out with Gnome, but of course I made my own system.yaml file, running KDE 6.4.3 into which you swap by rebooting.
Very nice, rock solid (just like the Steamdeck) and Arch btw 😎

""The [newly formed] Debcrafters’ […] team will take the lead on syncing & merging packages from Debian, reviewing proposed migration issues, upstreaming Ubuntu deltas, and take ownership of major transitions […]""
Makes me wonder how many similar efforts Canonical/Ubuntu already announced over the years to improved the interaction with Debian – and what became of them.

One of the main setbacks to finish my homelab migration from nomad to k8s has been cert-manager compatibility with some of my domains. I didn't want to migrate everything to cloudflare. I've got 2 domains on easydns.com, which isn't supported by cert-manager, but is supported by dns-lexicon.
I found a cert-manager-webhook wrapper around dns-lexicon. Then I forked a fork so that I could tune the build pipeline to produce multi-arch images quickly.
Anyway here…

Does anyone have experience with running docker images of other Linux distros in GitHub Actions CI?
Use case is validating that things build and run under e.g. Fedora or Arch given an outer Ubuntu system. It won't be perfect because you're still running the Ubuntu kernel but should be good enough to find obvious build problems, produce usable nightly builds, etc.
My first CTF, running arch-based distro.
Any non-newbie tips?

Fun fact: NUC's with the Intel N150 are certainly not supported everywhere....
FreeBSD 14.2, 14.3,15.0; Void, MXLinux 23.6ahs, Artix daily 20250609, Ubuntu 25.04 install fine, but don't get past the resulting Grub menu.
Fedora 42, Linux Mint 22.1 (surprising!), Slackware Current liveslak Slackeroni & Mate and the Arch iso do.
And of course our all time fav Win 11 Pro 😜

Tried installing Arch Linux on an old Thinkpad last night. It did not go well. It reminded me of installing Red Hat back in the 90s. I don't mean that in a good way.
Recently switched from arch to #nixos and encountering a strange networking issue where network over wifi drops out every ~30 seconds or so. Very occasionally had problems on arch but nothing this bad.
