one thing i like about cyberpunk 2077 is that, even though all the lines are the same, the two V voice actors treat the character in dramatically different ways.
for example, while woman V is extremely cool and suave, dude V is the biggest fucking dork on the planet and dumb as a box of rocks

And this is working, but it's slow progress.
Mastodon in particular has UX problems that will be very hard to overcome that prevent mass adoption, foremost is that actual conversations (aka replies) are unreliable and slow due to the way posts are distributed. Quote post support was a huge first step to remedy this. I hope we'll see more updates on it.
Bluesky got a big chunk of former Twitter users, especially in some niches like for scientists and activists; they have great performance, reliable threading and replies and really amazing featuers like fully custom feeds—but suffer from intransparent moderation and frankly insufferable leadership (still leagues better than Twitter or Facebook though).

Apparently the US government departments are starting to join Bluesky and are getting ratioed in that the accounts are being blocked more than they are followed.
Doesn't really seem to make sense at first. The US Department Of Transportation isn't going to show up as a reply guy in your mentions and the spooks aren't going to use that account to spy on your posts.
Is the blocking then entirely performative? Because blocks are public they are votes?
I guess really it's people deliberately reading the recommended-for-you AI-driven slop feeds.
Blocked users won't show up in your machine-learning robot-recommended feeds that people apparently must be reading over there.
Just not-following would be enough for me, I don't see things I don't follow. But if you read the robot-DJ feeds then anything can show up, so you have to preemptively block it. If only to train the robot shuffle.

lol he blocked me so here he is crying on Mastodon:

joined "BlueSky" (against my better judgement) last week so I could contact people/services that aren't on Masto.
I made the mistake of responding to a post attacking Thomas Jefferson for failing to live up to a moral standard we clearly haven't even achieved in 2025, and the knives came out.
Every self-important child misrepresented my claim, accused me of defending slavery & child rape , and bombed me with 400
posts in one hour.

Ethan Mollick makes a good point on BlueSky:
I understand the fear and anger. But also:
1) It is connected to the belief that AI is fake and going to vanish, which means that critics who should be helping shape AI use through policy and collective work are sitting it out
2) Lumping all AI criticism/talk into us vs. "tech bros" doesn't help

A Professor at Toronto Metropolitan University:
“The Government of Canada could easily decide that it was going to use LinkedIn or Instagram or wherever it posts, and journalists would switch to following them there because they want to access what they’re saying,” he continued. “There was zero audience for Truth Social when
Trump created and started using it, but the audience went to the politician. Carney and his government could take a principled position by leaving X and its horrible spawn, Grok, and his audience of journalists and politicos would go with them.”
“Apparently, our political leaders simply choose not to.”

As always a huge thank you for the Senator's @… ongoing activism. It WILL happen. (and by it I mean, government going to the social web... Bluesky is just a temporary blip until it too goes fascist or we get some proper digital sovereignty laws in place.)

Less than 48 hours after joining Bluesky,
the White House has already become one of the most blocked accounts on the social network.
According to ClearSky, which tracks Bluesky blocking stats,
the White House account is blocked by around 91,000 accounts, while being followed by only 10,000.
The only account that’s been blocked by more Bluesky users belongs to Vice President JD Vance, who joined back in June.

Playing around with Antigravity, vibe coded a social media summarizer that makes a summary of the last 48 hours of my bluesky and mastodon timelines, using python, a local database of the posts on my laptop and APIs of mentioned services. Works greats after squashing some bugs and a few iterations. Interestingly you need to know a little bit about coding to use it efficienctly, even in "vibecode" mode.
