I like bikemap for route planning but if you use the free version you get barraged to upgrade constantly.
I try not to use Google Maps (or any Google stuff) and Apple Maps is okay for bike routes but not great. OpenStreetMap just isn't quite there yet for many of my needs.
Are there other options?

Kontrolle läuft so: Upgrade auf dem Handy vorzeigen. Personal fragt meistens nach "der Bahncard". Ich zeige auf dem Handy die BC50. 2x QR-Code vorzeigen; gibt bestimmt ganz wichtige Gründe, das nicht zu kombinieren ;)
Manchmal wurde auch nach der BC100 gefragt, nach dem Ausweis oder es herrschte erstmal allgemeine Verwirrung 😆

How did I almost break it?
I decided to try upgrading from Mastodon 4.3.9 to 4.4.1 (Yes, I did dump the DB first, of course I did!), which among other things has you installing libvips-tools. However, the package available on my distro is too old and not supported by Mastodon.
So, I paused mid upgrade to go see if I could upgrade my distro to a newer version, that has a newer package available. (See the mistake yet?).

Not a great day for cycling! Had a flat so I spent 20 minutes fixing it. Hoping I’ll get better/faster at some point. 3D printed tire levers helped. Just rode around the neighborhood since I was short on time and it was windy.
Took the opportunity to upgrade my front tire to one @… gave me. Still need to deal with the fork issue. :(

We have about 5000 miles on our Polestar 3 now, and like it a lot, especially as an upgrade from a Tesla. Its controls and interior are Tesla-like to drive (one big screen) but with head-up display, much better build quality, very quiet, one of the best sound systems (by B&W) available in any car. It competes more with the Model X than the smaller Y. The software issues that bugged us in the early days were fixed with 1.3.x upgrade last June. Also it looks cool…

Just had to upgrade my solo instance of hosted Mastodon from the smallest plan (est. 5 active users) to the next size (est. 20 active users), due to database storage exhaustion.

I am once again asking GHC devs to make it possible for tooling such as HLint and the Haskell Language Server to compile against multiple versions of GHC.
I realise that this is a gigantic undertaking, but if you're wondering why people don't stick with Haskell, it might be because every compiler version upgrade breaks *everything*.

proud of little #footiMac. 2008 Core2 Duo iMac with 16GB RAM and a 1.5TB SSD
She's done excellent work in her space under the stairs. nearly a full year of uptime and chugging away doing Mastodon, Pixelfed (until just now), weewx Weather server, homebridge, streaming relay point, and general web server.
My next trick will be to see if I can move mastodon from using local storage for media to using cloud storage. I'm at about 70% usage now, so it's time.
Your old computers always have a purpose friends! Don't throw them away!

#selfhost v4.4.1 upgrade complete! Phew that was a long one. But I think I found the root of the issue in the zombie pixelfed install. Maybe it had a memory leak (it wasn’t a current version) or maybe it was just too much for #footiMac.. but it was definitely slowing things down. Things are much more responsive now in general. I guess that brings the pixelfed testing to an end for now. But I'll probably bring it back up elsewhere if I get a chance.

When I wrote my last post above I got an error from my instance that the post was over the 500 character limit. Which is odd, since I have the limit set to 2000 on my instance.
Sure enough, it looks like somewhere along the line I blew away the config files that had been edited to enable the longer posts.
So consider this a test to see if I have correctly re-applied the hack, which is what it is, and completely unnecessarily, in the code for mastodon when this should be a simple switch/option in the admin panel!

i think my pixelfed install has been slowing down #footiMac! I stopped it temporarily just to see if it would help and things sped up and responded immediately. So I may keep my pixelfed instance offline for the foreseeable future. I don't use it anyway. Maybe i'll test it out on my external host rather #footiMac just to take away any multi-hosted issues.
I'm now at 4.4.0 and am now moving to 4.4.1. Should be done shortly!
