Mittlerweile plane ich mir mehrere Nachmittage über's Jahr verteilt, an denen ich mich um Firmware-Upgrades der Geräte hier im Haushalt kümmere. Fotokameras, Audio-/Video-Equipment, Musik-Geräte, Netzwerk-Devices. Heute waren Laborgeräte dran: Oszilloskope, Labornetzteile, Messgeräte.
Wir sind zwischenzeitlich an einem Punkt, wo die Upgrade-Prozedur bei vielen Geräten ähnlich ist: neue Firmware auf ein Storage-Device, das Storage am Gerät anschließen, Update-Knopf/Knöpfe finden, fertig.

The recurring theme of "where do we put the Device Tree?" keeps haunting LPC.
It is such a tough nut to crack when two or more components that are being developed mostly independently, but not fully, ought to consume and extend it in different ways. 🤔
I advocate for holistic views and not caring about breakages; always do full system upgrades including #firmware.
That requires a very sophisticated upgrade path, but it's doable, I think. It only works with a shift in mindsets though.

Ich habe ein Messgerät (ja, billiges China-Ding, aber für den angedachten Zweck ist das mehr als ausreichend), das für Firmware-Upgrade per USB an den Rechner angeschlossen werden möchte. Dann File drauf kopieren, neustarten, upgrade. Das Device ist nach dem Anstecken nicht im Betriebssystem zu sehen. Wenn ich es vom USB-Port abziehe, bekomme ich eine Fehlermeldung. Zwischen den Anführungszeichen steht der Name des USB-Geräts, der i. d. R. zum Mountpoint wird. #uxfromhell #alleskaputt
