Hmm, I think this will be the temporary traffic light set outside that's causing havoc with our TV; I guess it's swamping the mast-head amp; that's coming in ~10dB stronger than the BBC DVB-T mux.

'rr' is a very odd debugger - it can run backwards (kind of). Normally when debugging a program you get to a crash and find that a variable has a bad value - your challenge is now to find out how it got that way. With 'rr' you can watch the variable and tell it to 'reverse-cont' backwards until it found what wrote it! It's not that often you need it, but when you do it's amazing - it's also great for helping understand a code base you don't know.

'debootstrap' is one of my favourite parts of debian - and you can use it from other distros as well! It lets you setup a debian install in a directory for use with a container/chroot/etc .
My most recent two uses are 1) Building up a new debian install on an existing machine running a different distro in an LVM LV on the running system and configoring it, ready to go on reboot 2) Installing a very old debian chroot for some testing.

In a world of planned obsolescence, the environmental bill is being paid by communal waste collection services. A targeted analysis of which repairs could be most cost-effective for waste management could help justify funding of such initiatives with volunteer-based repairs.

Servicepost: If you own a t14s gen6 with an Intel chip that is very slow after waking from sleep in Linux the most recent BIOS Update (November 2025) seems to fix it. It's not available in fwupdmgr yet though. Gotta do it manually.

I think that one thing that kicked "being an AI thought leader" into higher gear than what happened with "the cloud" or whatnot is that to be an "AI expert" you literally don't have to know or be capable of anything.

I just got a "Decomputing" talk accepted by a very tech-focused business conference (as a Keynote even) and a labor rights organization who wanted me to propose a talk instantly went for the "The Luddites were right" suggestion. Two things that a few months ago would not have been possible I think.
Things are changing, the dire state of the world sometimes allows new narratives to punch through.
