SNF (Switzerland) restrictions proposed: only 1 concurrent research grant per PI (plus maybe one coop), only 1 proposal per year.
🔥 Hot take (since I'm not at all operating like this currently): I actually think this might be a good idea? It would curb some of the biggest "research mills", where one PI has a huge pyramid scheme underneath them, and might encourage more careful grant proposals, slower science. And might even put more emphasis back into the basic research funding (instead of the grant lotteries)?
(Maybe naive, I know, and I have no idea how this would be implemented)

I have been intermittently sick, and working on a grant proposal and doing household stuff with the family all week. It's not the best recipe for a relaxing week on holiday. So now I'm going to do some fun stuff. Saturday morning science - which means looking at pretty data and reading new papers and editing student's paper.
... And wondering where I went so wrong that I have to do the actual science in my free time rather than at the office

This survey question is rich. This is from one of the BigMoneySF groups trying to make it harder for the rest of us to put stuff on the ballot.
But they will never ban paid signature gathering, the one thing that would most effectively keep crap off the ballot. They just want to raise the signature threshold for the rest of us. It would still be easy for billionaires to abuse the system and qualify any ballot measure they like, just hard for anyone else.

And here we go, another grant proposal rejected. You better not collaborate with me as I'm quite successful in not getting funding. That's the fifth in a row, if I counted correctly. Basically all work of the last 12 months completely wasted
And as our university is run as a profit-oriented business with controlling and such, I'm knee-deep in the red with hundreds of minus hours which might result in getting paid less. Despite being completely overworked
