With all the automation and digitization here in China, daily life doesn't feel impersonal. They still have people available for everything. Every metro station had staff for the security checks, ticket counters, cleaning, safe guards etc. So if you get stuck there is always a human in reach you can ask instead of fumbling for quirky apps on your phone.

I wouldn't used to post about such activities, because obviously it can come across a certain way - but I stumbled on these old photos of a Grace Jones gig setup - and thought maybe people would find it interesting.
The idea was to do a one-off very different sound, and we stripped down some of her classics. My "station" is in the first photo, her son played percussion, Dave Okumu guitar, and Ivor handled the bass (see Moog lol) and was also triggering other samples.

From a recent vacation, a battery-powered trolley recharging at stations. It does not spend much time doing this, and yes, these things exist.

Looking up at a short bit of charging rail extending out from the roof-edge of a trolley station (in Newcastle). A trolley is stopped underneath it and has its pantograph extended. There's an incidental tree above all of it, filling half the sky.

Many months late but I did a pilgrimage to the Line 6 Finch West LRT.
Rode from Finch West to Humber and back (with a stop at Plaza Latina)
I liked the train, comfortable and mostly smooth.
But after Chow announcement that signal priority was active… I wonder if they had to roll it back? We had to stop at almost half the red lights. This line would be amazing if only it wasn’t stopping all-the-time.

Recently this post from @Merocle caught my eye: I'm fixing my iFixit soldering station. I haven't used it for a long time and the battery has gone overdischarge. I hope it will come back to life. Unfortunately, there are no replacements available for sale at the moment. Devices with built-in rechargeable batteries have been bugging me a lot lately. It's convenient to have a device you can take with you and use anywhere. And with modern Li-ion cells, battery life is remarkable.
