in which each leg separately is an equivalence iff univalence holds, so if you ask for an equivalence between the endpoints things "cancel out" and you don't get univalence. This is even easier to see in the "empty context" (unit base type) where the span becomes the two projections out of the type of equivalences (X, Y : U) × X ≃ Y.
